Of course the game counts. There is no reason it wouldn't and there is no point for the thread.
There are quite a few pointless threads that get posted on NA, but life goes on.

I suppose this thread is in response to the news that several pre-orders made after November 18th are being canceled, correct? I really hope they print more of these. Maybe they'll produce another small run, but sadly I don't think they'll make several hundred thousand more of this special edition, which sucks, because the $300 price tag that this has on ebay right now is ridiculous. There is literally no sealed DS or 3DS game going for that price right now. Heck, there are only a very few number of DS and 3DS systems that are going for that price. I say don't panic yet. Go to your gamestop or bestbuy when they open on February 19th. If you strike out, come back in the morning on the 20th and 21st. After then, if you haven't gotten lucky and gotten someone else's preorder who didn't pick it up within 48 hours, then your only bet might be to bite the bullet, or wait out the storm, as I don't think that price tag will hold for too long.
As for is this required for a full set, I say yes, because technically you are getting a new game on a physical cart, and this is the only way to get it on a physical cart. It's kinda like shovel knight. That was a digital only game, so originally it wasn't needed for a full set, but once it became available in physical format, you needed it for a full set. Fire Emblem Fates Revelation is a digital only game, except for this special edition. While it doesn't have it's own cart, I think that the fact that you can still have it on a physical cart means you do need this special edition if you want a full set.
No, I hadn't heard about this news. That's a real kick to the pants to everyone that ordered it after November 18th. The price actually doesn't concern me, even if it does keep its $300 price tag. That amount of money is nothing compared to the cost of games on many of the other Nintendo consoles. I would of course try to get it for less than the going rate though.
Yea it sucks. It's just like what happened with the majora's mask new 3ds system. At least best buy compensated everyone whose preorder got canceled by giving them a $50 giftcard. I suspect that gamestop will have to do a similar thing because I'm sure they will be getting thousands of angry calls and emails in regards to this. Yea it's note close to little samson price or stadium events, etc, but it's still pretty high up there, and out of the budget for most. I just hope people don't give in and actually pay that price, at least not initially. Most new things that are hyped and are expensive at first tend to go down in price after a few months or a year or so. Just look at the pikachu 3DS system and the majora's mask 3DS system. The majora's mask one was going for $500 at one point, and now, a little under a year later, it's only at around $250.
