Going forward the competition will have two games running at a time.  They are separate leaderboards, with their own points awarded.  You can compete in one or the other, or both.

This appears to trip people up so I'm posting it again:  If you post an updated score please re-use your original post, or create a new one and remove your old score.  That will make my life easier sorting things out.

October Game #1: Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Rules
  • Goal -> Progress
  • Tiebreaker -> TBD
  • Bonus Point -> Beat the game
  • Play until Game Over.  Do not continue
  • Pause the game during the animation of your last death to take your picture
  • If you beat the game, take a picture of the ending and then of the scoreboard.
October Game #2: Street Fighter II Turbo
Rules

  • Goal -> High Score
  • Bonus Point -> Beat the game
  • Play until you either beat M. Bison or lose a single match
  • Play on Turbo mode
  • Set speed to 3 stars (default speed)
  • All other settings should be the default
  • Must be SF II Turbo.  Cannot be any other version of SFII

Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Level 42

Always loved this game. A fun tribute to horror and sci-fi. The early stages are pretty managable most of the time but late-game stages can get really punishing. The game also technically has a password feature...but it becomes practically useless beyond about Level 25 or so because the password doesn't stock you up on items that you'll desperately need. Some levels can be virtually impossible if you don't have the right gear. Silverware, weedwacker, monster-potions, bazooka, plenty of first aid kits...all are essential, especially in the later stages. This means beating the game mostly requires a marathon run. I think the furthest I've ever gotten is Level 44. Still a SNES classic in my book.

Street Fighter II Turbo - 638,400

Reached Bison but couldn't finish him off. This port might be one of the best of any SF2 game. Certainly one of the games that proved it was possible to bring the 90's arcade experience to home consoles. The port of Super SF2 for SNES definitely feels a bit weak by comparison.

I adjusted the rules for taking your picture at Zombie Ate My Neighbours.
You have a few seconds where you can pause the game during the death animation, so pause the game when you lose your last life and take your picture.
If you beat the game, take a picture of the ending or of the final boss defeated and a picture of the final scoreboard with your name on it.

Just to be clear, for SF2T the rules say "Play until you either beat M. Bison or lose a single match". "Lose a single match" means game over, right? I.E. you are beaten in the best 2 out of 3 vs another CPU player and return to the stage select screen, right? Or does it mean you lose a single round? I just want to make sure I understand as "match" and "round" can be ambiguous.

You play till you get the game over screen or until you kick Bison's butt.

And on turbo you can play a normal game or turbo meter. Does it matter?

You have to pick turbo with 3 stars of speed.
Normal mode is Championship Edition mode, which has different balance properties to the fighters and special moves and different, easier AI due to the lack of extra moves for Blanka, Dhalsim, Zangief and Chun Li at the very least.

Blanka on true turbo mode is the cheapest turd in that game.  His stupid rolling ball attack can go anywhere, at any time, to counter your attacks.  Shenanigans I tell you!

He posed no problem to my Zangief.
But the CPU being able to use the vertical rolling attack without having to charge is pretty cheap.
At least he is no vanilla SF2 Guile and Dhalsim. Those two were broken beyond repair there. God tier level by far.
Luckily, the nerf stick hit them both hard on SF2:T

That's one of my biggest complaints against the game's application of "difficulty", particularly in Turbo mode. Increased difficulty doesn't make the AI smarter or more strategic. It just unlocks the ability for it to spam impossibly-timed counter-hits with the virtual press of a button. Higher play speeds only aggravate the problem because it reduces the human player's window to predict/see/guard against this nonsense.

But yeah, any "charge" character can be really abused by the AI in this way but Blanka is especially bad, since his moves have such great flexibility (which, in human hands, is traditionally balanced by the fact that they require "charge").

I failed to get double perfects, or any perfects for all that matters at Guile, Chun Li, Balrog, Vega, Sagat and Bison.
I suck, I know.

Made it to level 12 "Mars Needs Cheerleaders" on my first and only attempt of ZAMN. I've never played it solo before. It was a hell of a lot easier than co-op but not near as fun

I knew I wasn't going to touch your score on zombies ate my neighbours but seeing your SF2 score makes me want to play again. I may have another shot before the end of the month to try and it. I'm glad you didn't wait until the last day to post
