So I beat that purple boss, saved my lizard buddy and ended the demo with 5 coins. I also tried 3 of the lizard suits (bounce, push, surf). I really enjoyed playing this game and it will be the first time I have ever backed something on kickstarter. Nice work Brad!

Over a quarter of the way there in less than 24 hours, congratulations!

Man, I love those tiny sprites such as the frog and the snail.

Couldn't get it to work on the PowerPak unfortunately.

It will run on the PowerPak but you may need to update your mappers. Specifially, the BxROM mapper from Loopy's mappers should run it. Download Loopy's mappers here: https://home.comcast.net/~olimar/NES/powerpak_loopy.zip

I think the file you need is MAP22.MAP but I would recommend using all of these. Many of them are improvements on the mappers that come with the PowerPak.

I tried it on an emulator and I'll try it on my powerpak at some other time as it's 4am but its pretty impressive so far from what I've seen. I don't really understand the goals of the kickstarter though (aside from the money aspect) I see retroUSB publish independent games all the time. What exactly do you mean by Linux/PC ports and such?

I need to cover at least living expenses for a few more months to be able to continue working full time on this game, as well as requiring funds to begin a production run of cartridges. If I can't meet these requirements, I will have to put development on hold indefinitely. The Kickstarter is a way to meet this need.

The PC version is a necessary part of the development process; It is actually more accurate to call the NES version a port. I develop the PC version first to iterate on the details of the game (much easier to do in C++), and then translate them into NES assembly code as they become more finalized. I'm offering the PC build to players as an option for those who would prefer it to using the NES ROM. I think most people at NintendoAge would probably rather just use the NES ROM, but this is not a universal preference elsewhere. The PC build also uses far less CPU resources than an NES emulator does, so it can also reduce power consumption or system requirements.

This looks awesome. I've never backed anything on kickstarter but if I can spare the dough I will definitely pick up a cart. Very nice work so far!

A quality game. Congratulations! I played some of it and I haven't figured out the functions of the different lizard suits yet but it is fun for what I played.

Played a bit, very nice. Just wondering if the version of the game shipped to the Kickstarter backers will be different in any way from the regular release?

If there is a future release after the kickstarter, I don't plan to make it different in any significant way, but I do plan to mark the ROM in some visible way. Maybe just a version number on the info screen, or something like that.

Feels like a Battle Kid/Ufouria hybrid to me. Feels like the purple suit should kill things when bouncing on them, damn Ducktales.

I want to back, but I'm not totally sold yet. Mainly, I need more time to see if I can adjust to the controls. Feels too heavy in the momentum department. Like the controls when you hold down feels right if it were how you moved at full speed...

I AM sold on how charming this whole project and game feel, though. I want it to succeed, with or without my support. Again, maybe I just need more playtime.

Your card never gets charged, that I know. If you were referring to the fate of the project, that I do not know

If funding is not met nobody is charged, yeah. On the project side, I hope it doesn't come to that, because Lizard might have to be put on hold indefinitely. If I take a job in game development it is very likely my contract would forbid this kind of side project (strong non-compete clauses are fairly standard). If it's funded, on the other hand, I should have enough to live on to finish the game as planned.

I don't mean this in a bad way, so please don't take this negatively. But I tried out the demo and honestly, I didn't really like it. I roamed around and felt lost the entire time, so I quickly gave up. Did I miss something? Could you tell me what other NES games Lizard is most similar to?  What other games inspired Lizard?

I'm trying to get a better sense of what this game's about.  I'm going to give it another go later, but any input from the creator or others who have played it would be nice.

Hey, it's okay if you don't like it, PolarBear. I am not expecting it to be a game for everyone. I am making a kind of game that I want to play, and I hope some of you would like the same thing.

I don't know if naming my influences would help you enjoy it, but here's a quick list of games that have directly inspired Lizard in some way: Prince of Persia, Bubble Bobble, Solstice, Metroid, Fez, VVVVVV, Gimmick!, Battletoads, L'abbeye des Morts

Of those, maybe Solstice is the closest in gameplay? I'm not sure. I think people would have differing opinions on it, and I like to hear other interpretations, so I am hesitant to give an authorial statement of intent.
