I could see why you are saying they are different projects, but they are the same core game with Flames of eternity being a completed version of Crimson Echoes (bugs/sprite updates and story completion)

Trying to avoid inevitable confusion of someone thinking the projects are not related at all.

he problem is it was never officially released by the developers and an Alpha version was leaked that apparently came before over 2,000 bugfixes and other inclusions. An apparent "Final" version of the game was leaked on Reddit a year or so ago but the OP is unsure it's the real deal and so is giving it a full playthrough to check.

That 2% could be important story line, the last area, the last battle, etc. Don't assume that 98% means it's able to be fully played through without having parts of the real game showing up and making dialog/area's out of place and not finishing the story or leaving important story pieces out

Yeah, I remember the C&D hammer Squaresoft gave the creators a while back telling them to stop making it . I think a copy that was 98% done was then leeked by a tester of the game. There was the full version that was posted on Youtube later on and I guess some other hackers used that as reference to the 98% rom (I think it was some dialog fixes, and a few small graphical changes, but nother major) and I think there is a full version now floating around out there.

Awesome, glad to hear everyone is interested. The playthrough is going well. I'm confident the rom is complete. The one I'm using is described as being 100%. I'm really enjoying the game so far. It is pretty hard however. I'm more interested in a storyline and atmosphere of a game rather than a challenge so it's a complaint IMO. They put you up against an iron golem solo right off the bat. NIccce.

I'm not interested in profiting off anyone's work. I'm not affiliated with the team in anyway either. It's a dead project to my knowledge. I have a full time job, repro's are a hobby for me, not a living. People ask for this game all the time and I personally wanted it for my collection.

How's the progress coming along? I played a ways into this on emulator last year without issue, but never completed it. I decided I need to play through the original again first because I couldnt remember enough of the original story. I hadn't played it since sometime in the 90's.
