I know it's not NES, but the game we got in Mario All Stars for SNES was called "The Lost Levels", which I know was released in Japan as SMB2.  Generally I just call the NES version Super Mario Bros. 2J.

What I wanted to know is was this game a Famicom Disk System game only or was there a Famicom port as well?  I had heard somewhere it was ported and you could go to A-1 from the start.  In the Disk System game you need to beat it 8 times before you can access level A-1.

If anyone's got any info, I appreciate it.

There was no cart version released on the famicom by Nintendo. There are, of course, pirate carts floating about, but many of them have problems (such as the wind not working).

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...
