The change to a low score/progression contest is for the better. Honestly point pressing is boring. Playing for progression will be more fun anyway.

The participation requirement is a little steeper now. Unfortunately that will make two scores that have already been posted defunct. Too bad the rules weren't changed yesterday.

Point pressing needs to still be outlawed, otherwise you can accumulate lives

Okay, this time I made it to stage 4 with a score of 20,600. That's pretty good. That means I should at least be able to make it to stage 5 with a score not much higher than that.

This game wasn't exactly designed to be played pacifist. Prepare to take some unavoidable hits. Hot Flash is fastest so a good pick for the first and second stages. I like to use Rockers for third.

Happy to see it's not a high score contest anymore. I noticed on the first level how you can respawn the enemies for quick kills.

I was able to get to the last boss last night, so I'm hoping to have it beat before the end of the week. I can beat it normally just fine, in the past I always needed to use continues, though.

OK, definitely passing on this one this week.
I am not a fan of pacifist runs.

I'm not going to play pacifist, I'm just going to try to beat the game. There are a ton of spots where you pretty much have to drop the guy in front of you or you'll get hit and take damage. Just gotta be careful not to retread areas you already passed so you don't respawn enemies.

You can also take a lot of hits without getting killed.

But the most important thing is making progress. Most players will not reach the last level in Rollergames. I doubt they'll even reach the fifth level. I maxed my score in the Battletoads low score contest, but still made 5th place by reaching the Rat Race.

How many points it takes to get an extra life?

I'm not exactly sure since you cannot see them during a level (I think), but I do know I was racking up 1-2 lives per spawn, and that I was over 200K when I stopped.  So 20 or 30K maybe?

does anyone else remember the TV show this game was based on ? it was on saturday mornings after wrestling and was a scripted roller derby / drama , good teams vs the bad teams

Heck yeah! Except here, they only showed it at 1am on saturday nights, after Saturday Night Live. That was a task and a half staying up for when I was a kid.

Can't believe I missed the past two weekly contests(my schedule has been exhausting the past two weeks). I love this game, I can't wait to buckle down and submit a good score.

For us it was on right before American Gladiators.

I find the timing of this contest hilarious since I just picked this up:

I'm not sure how beating the game can be handled in this contest because it doesn't show your score at the end.

This is a decent beat em up for casual play and for just beating the game without paying attention to score, but unfortunately it's less than ideal for any kind of score contest. It's like the game designers went out of their way to make it bad for contests.

I'm not exactly sure since you cannot see them during a level (I think), but I do know I was racking up multiple lives per spawn, and that I was over 200K when I stopped.  Maybe 30 or 40K?

There's a playthrough on youtube where the player has 44,100 by stage 6-1, so we could say something like you can't have more than 100,000 points by 6-1 or your run is disqualified. This would prevent excessive points pressing to accumulate lives while leaving a margin to get a few extra lives. Good?

Figuring out decent rules for a contest for this game is as frustrating as the game itself, lol.

From running the SNES contest I can attest to how hard it can be

I should probably leave that to you guys, otherwise other players could accuse me of trying to influence the scoring to my benefit

This is easily the most broken game so far in terms of contest play. Not that it's a bad game, but it doesn't lend itself to contests at all.

Is this the first time this game has been used for a contest?

Yes. At least on NintendoAge. Apparently nobody knew how broken it would be.

For sure it is the first time. Every year we have trouble picking different beat em up games cause there aren't much of them that fits for a contest. So when we saw this one with a score we thought it could be a good idea...

I reckon I need to fire up this game again. Are there any emergency substitute games?

No!

The bulk of my game playing for these things has to be done on Monday-Wednesday.  In fact my final scores come from Wednesday night at least 75% of the time, and I'm already short on time because of the Isolated Warrior, uh, issues, on Sunday night
