Wow congrats guys 32% and nearly 100 games completed in 3 months. Wow! Could this be the year?

I was the winner of the competition in 2016 and completed 70 games. I am away from my N64 at the moment, but will start to contribute when i am re-united with my N64. Great stuff!

Beat Aidyn @ 57+ hours.

It's not the worst RPG I've played, but it's not that good. I'd say around 6/10.

It's quite slow-paced, there's not much story especially in the first half, fights
tend to be boring, and it's unclear in many places. Even after beating the game,
I still don't know what half the status effects do, for example. Outside camera
was decent to good, inside camera was ok to terrible. Navigation was hard at
the start, with the limited camera and terrible minimap.

Tech side, it's quite mixed. The game runs at 15-20fps with somewhat common drops.
But on the other hand, it's a big and smooth world, no loading pauses, and enemies
are visible on map. Terrain and places are varied, there's enough props and at good
places.

Notable bad art decisions are making the characters comically low-poly, and it's
the bad kind of low-poly modeling too; then there are a few battle arenas where
the floor is just a single repeating texture. With just bilinear filtering you
absolutely don't do that, it looks like ass.

It's also quite buggy. It even crashed on me once, throwing up a stack trace. Cutscenes
were triggering out of order, the dialog is buggy in many places (wrong names, typos,
tech-side keywords leaking in...), and in parts the terrain verts aren't aligned,
causing tears.

Many times my controller pak threw up the corruption message, and once it erased itself
completely. Not sure if I can blame the game, but at least I didn't lose anything thanks
to Everdrive backups.

Oh wow. "It's not the worst RPG I've ever played" is probably the nicest thing I've ever heard anyone say about Aidyn. 57 hours is a huge slog. Thanks for taking that one for the team.

That's 99 games!

Haha, I did see it had bad reviews, but being practically the only RPG on the console, as well as one of the few games with big seamless worlds, had to try it.

That worries me...I'll keep one Memory Card aside for Aidyn Chronicles when I decide to give it a go. Did you use a guide or just wing it?

I also got the "corrupted" message a couple times in TWINE, taking the pak out and putting it back solved it there. So it may just be my pak or controller, though both are genuine Nintendo. When I bought the pak a few months ago I checked the battery had enough charge too.

I only needed a guide to find the lighthouse scroll and to solve the Necromancer tower rainbow puzzle, everything else I did myself.

Stunt Racer 64 completed on normal. This is one I rented as a kid so it was neat coming back to it and finishing it.

This guy deserves the Medal of Sacrifice!
Aidyn took me 44 hours and it denoted my N64Ever challenge still a year later.

God be with me, I am going to attempt Carmagedon 64 next! I gave it a little go at the weekend, and deary me... It is so bad, it is completely broken!

However, I did actually derive a perverse form of fun out of it, wrestling with the "controls" and laughing at the moon physics... I ready for this, here we go, I will try to grab a screenshot of the end screen for this one!

Man, I wish I can achieve the same one day! I got it for Xmas 98 and was immediately disapointed. It ended up being one of the few games I actually traded in as a kid, although I bought it  back a few years later. Over time I went back to it, and the game grew on me, although it is still far from top tier in my opinion. On two separate playthrough attempts I have tried to beat this game, but I never got past the USA level... There is a bit in either the second or third area of that level where you need to drive through a storm drain or something to stop a bug assault, but for some reason I always seem to be stuck on the wrong side of a fence or something and the people die. One day I will try again and hopefully find the correct route to beat that part.

I tried to enjoy Body Harvest back in the day but I just couldn't for the life of me figure out wtf I was supposed to be doing. Gave up and traded it away for some other random game.

There is actually a really interesting story about the development of this game, if you read into it. The developers at DMA (creators of GTA who would go on to become Rockstar and ultimately Rockstar North) were approached by Nintendo with the offer to publish Body Harvest as a second party title, much like Nintendo were doing with Rareware games at the time. This was early in the development, and DMA thought that this would be an excellent push for their game, and they were excited that Shigeru Miyamoto himself had taken a keen interest in their project. However, the more action oriented game they had initially planned, with a greater emphasis on combat and driving the many diferent vehicles, was not to the tastes of Nintendo. In particular Shigeru Miyamoto pushed for more and more puzzle and RPG elements to be crammed into the game.

Each time DMA sent the game back to Japan for review, Nintendo demanded more and more changes, and the release date for what was supposed to be a launch title was pushed back and back. The final insult was when Nintendo bluntly stated that the finished game was not up to their standards, and so they dumped the game from their line-up. DMA took the game to Gremlin to be published in PAL regions and Midway in the USA. It never saw a release in Japan at all. After that, DMA were understandably pissed and swore off Nintendo. An N64 port of GTA that was in development was cancelled (I would bloody love to play that proto, lol), and Nintendo essentially missed out on one of the biggest gaming cash cows that there has ever been!

There are a couple of good YouTube videos that lay it all out. Real shame, as you can see in this game many of the prototype elements that would eventually emerge in GTA 3, particularly the vehicle based gameplay jumping in many different cars and whatnot. It explains why the game feels so poorly paced and wonky, and perhaps why the atmosphere of the game is so flat and deflated. Additionally, there is one other DMA game on the N64 that is A LOT better than Body Harvest: Space Station Silicon Valley! It also has a mechanic whereby you enter different vehicles, but in this case they are hilarious robot animals. One of my favourite N64 games, highly recommended!

I stopped racing at a certain point and started to win the match by just killing them. As soon as you can buy the monster truck, DO IT! At the start just drive backwards to blow up a few and half your troubles will be gone!

Making rapid progress through Carmageddon 64, I've made it to group 8 out of 10 so I should be able to beat it in a couple more sessions! Turns out the game saves your progress to the controller pak automatically without any kind of message, which is an interesting design choice, I guess, lol!

I am kinda concerned to admit that I am really enjoying this game! I mean, it is completely broken and unbalanced and ugly and poorly designed and coded in every possible way. As a GAME it fails entirely... but it IS fun! I am loving crashing into opponents and blasting zombies into bits that go flying everywhere as I mow them down. I am having great fun learning how to accelerate and maintain the right amount of speed using the broken controls and physics... Trying to win races when the opponents don't even bother to race against you, but the very terrain of the courses themselves and the ever diminishing time limit are your main enemies... I swear, I am having way more fun with this game than I should be on the game's own merits. Am I sick, lol?!

You've discovered one of my core principles of gaming: sometimes "bad" games are much more fun than "good" games.

Beat Carmageddon 64! Think I've already said pretty much what I need to about this one, lol!

Next, Vigilante 8! One of my all time favourite N64 games since I was a kid, gonna cleanse my palette of the Carmageddon trash with an actual decent vehicular combat game! Shouldn't take me too long, this one.

Vigi 1 and 2 are awesome! Really nice to do missions as a car. Hard sometimes but fun!
