I recently purchased The Legend of Zelda ALTTP and when I was checking to make sure I didn't buy a fake off eBay, I couldn't match the board up with anything on snescentral.com.  The label also looks a little off to me.  I've been looking it over for awhile now and need some fresh eyes.  If the PCB is fake it was done really well.  Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks, Brian

I don't see anything at all suspect. Your label photo is too grainy to say for sure but it doesn't strike me as fake.

Thanks for looking it over.  I was convinced it could be fake because the board wasn't listed on snescentral.com.  It was literally about to give me an anxiety attack lol.  I might need to send him a picture of the board for his site.

When I was looking through the Zelda ALTTP PCB list I couldn't find one where all the chips where the same as this copy.

Who would bootleg a LttP cart? The game isn't worth enough for a scammer to make a profit.

My son... gives me Helpful Nintendo Hints that are far too complex for the adult mind to comprehend. Here's a verbatim example: "OK, there's Ganon and miniature Ganon and there's these things like jelly beans and the miniature Ganon is more powerfuller, because when you touch him the flying eagles come down and the octopus shoots red rocks and the swamp takes longer." And the hell of it is, I know he's right. - Dave Barry

Board is fine, that is the one Nintendo used before they started using the MAD-1 chip for controlling SRAM.

Super Play Action Football uses the same board.

SNES bootlegs have become really really cheap to make; the Chinese are doing them in bulk for around $20 each puts a ton of even mid-priced games at risk.

The fakes are starting to get a lot better.

To my knowledge, nobody is faking ROM chip stamps to this point. Also, yours checks out (SNS-ZL-0 is the proper ID for a SHVC-1A3B-13 PCB)

Yeah, that was what I kept reading was so far nobody is adding the chip stamps and its a dead give away if the chips are blank.  Is this something that is difficult for a bootlegger to do?

Amazing information and links, dudes. I'm not surprised by faking at all anymore.

There is a way to fake the silkscreens, but getting the ROM chip to have the same shape as the authentic chip may be too much work. Just gotta be extra careful if you're on the lookout for expensive games :/

Difficult, but I suppose it's not impossible. But have yet to see someone put the time/effort into it.

I used to work in IC counterfeit detection. I've seen 8 pin SOIC painted and relabeled with damn near perfect markings. The cost of these parts? A few cents each in lots of less than 1,000. Give it time...
