I had a design choice question here... What do you guys think about this situation:
In BK1, the save rooms had their own music track. I was thinking of removing this for BK2 and just have the area's theme continue on. Save rooms are also indicated by stars outside the entrance.
You think this is a good move or do you prefer having some calming music in-between sectors?
I would highly prefer the music to not change from the area's music, or for there to be no music in the save rooms at all. I like "calming" music in save rooms as well, but more for games like Resident Evil 1 & 2, where you might be in there for a couple minutes shuffling items around, checkin the map, looking for stuff on a shelf, whatever. Catching your breath.
In BK, though, I found the save room music to be totally intrusive when you're at any part that you will die often and quickly in (which is often for a lot of us). Constantly dying and hearing that first chord over and over really adds to the repetition in a bad way. If you kept the area music going during save rooms, we'd hear more notes between spawn and death, softening the blow of the repetition when dying frequently.
Honestly, the save room music was one of my first complaints in BK. Even if you were to hang out in there for a few minutes, I found it to be something I'd want to turn down. I'd suggest coming up with a much softer, quieter track if you do decide to do save room music again. Something that's closer to ambient soft noise as opposed to a music track. I wish I could think of an example.
