Hello all. I am new to the site and have decided to start a snes collection. Primarily targeting sealed or at least CIB things. I haven't hit up any flea markets or anything of the sort yet. I did kick it off by buying SMB3 for NES just because I've always wanted it. I'll attach the link. Let me know if you guys think I did ok or I'm a newb idiot. I thought the price was ok maybe a touch high depending. It does have a small spot or two but from what little I've read it seams to be factory sealed and not a re seal. Any info or tips are appreciated.

Looking at price charting, it seems a little high for the moment but it's gone for more before. You might want to get familiar with some of those sites if you'd like to start up collecting. A popular one is gamevaluenow.com and videogames.pricecharting.com is another you could reference.

I think you overpaid a bit given the aggregate going rate, but if you're OK with the price who cares?

first rule about collecting: who gives a fuck what other people think or if you "overpaid." if you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

lol I like that saying. But to be honest I don't want to pay above market value on anything so if down the road I sell off I can not lose my ass.

Like loxx said you need to hit up the price charting sites before spending too much. You spent a little more than normal but that's given being new to collecting as we all have overpaid for something in our collections. Btw howdy!

Can you name any examples of something dropping by a significant amount? Theres a couple unlicenced nes games I remember it happening too, but it definitely isnt a common trend

Nothing significant. Just trying to point it out as it really is no guarantee that the game would be worth as much as what he paid for if under the current market value.

If down the road he sells... how long is this road...

starting a SNES collection (or any nintendo cart based collection) is going to be tough price wise. Especially CIB or sealed games. I wish you luck though. my advice, buy everything you actually want first. games that you actually desire or want to play, then go for the other stuff if your still into expanding the collection at that point. Also check out the sellers forum. There are a lot of great games listed by friendly people on the site.

EDIT: That SMB3 is sweet too. Don't know much on price, but always try to refer to Videogamepricecharting, Ebay sold listings, and recently I have been using Gamevaluenow as well. Familiarizing yourself with the prices is always a good first step.

Yeah I just don't want them without boxes. I'll start small and check local shops for steals.

You hating on UGCs?

Actually, just depends on what you want. I have collections but I'm not a collector. I see the wall of games and I want to touch them and play them. I keep them in custom hard cases because they're protected. I do have CIB games, but they have to be special or a real deal. Plus, if you want complete games, don't hesitate to buy loose. There are plenty of people like myself who will gladly sell original boxes.

My best advice when starting out collecting is to look locally for deals in your area and start buying good deals on anything so you can trade for things you want. Also a good thing to keep in mind is video games are not an investment, you should buy them and collect them because you enjoy having them and/or playing them.

UGCs can look really nice and uniform. I was browsing the cover project forums where people posted pics of their cased collections. Pretty cool

I'm sure I'll end up with a bunch of Ugc's also I'm not paying some of these prices for a cib unless I am able to somehow find the cartridge for little to nothing at a pawn shop or something.
