This is how i veiw this. Its wrong. But this^ happens to often.

I've done this, kinda..

Way back when, I bought a Game Cube from Wal-Mart. I had it for less than 6 months and suprisingly the thing crapped out on me.

Wal-Mart wouldn't except the return, and Nintendo wanted to charge me for the fix.

I bought another and returned the old broken one to Wal-Mart.

No, it's not right but sometimes you have to break the rules to get justice.

The situation that the OP mentioned above is just stealing.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

I haven't returned broken items, but I have bought items from store at full retail while simultaneously ordering online, then returning the unopened online order to the store with the receipt.

I have also been known to "rent" hardware from stores. If I need an HDMI cable immediately, I walk to the store and buy one for $30(!), then order one online for much less. When the online order arrives, I return the store cable.

I once had my new hard drive crash on a weekend. Since the store where I bought my new hard drive was closed, I bought a random hard drive from Best Buy. I used it for the weekend, then returned it on monday after I was able to exchange my original hard drive.

I "rented" a Geforce 3 for a few months. I bought it from Best Buy. 29 days later, I bought another one and immediately returned it with the old receipt. 29 days later, I repeated this process. The following month, I just returned the one I had been using for 3 months.

I was not happy.

Maybe I got a crabby PR guy or something.

One problem in 20+ years isn't too bad.

No. No, it is not.

but they scam us all the time, they even tried scaming on the pc game, where they opened up the pc game took out the coupon, and still sold the game as new even though they opened the box

i know its wrong thats why i wouldnt do it, but gamestop gives us a lot of reasons for us to do it

Can you list the ways they scam? The PC game being opened is still new if the code isn't used. They just don't want their game stolen by them putting it out.

I think there is more to the story than that. There is a thread on it but I'm not up on these new games. Apparently gamestop opened every copy of this one game because it came with a code which somehow activating it would cost them money, so they removed the code. It was a bad screw job on their part.

It was Deus Ex: Human Revolution...  From what I can recall, It came with a free onlive game activation so you can play the game on PC for free, and Gamestop sells the PC game on their site, so they opened all the new games and took the card out.

I consider new still factory sealed, not opened. Open is used....

But back on topic, yeah Gamestop has done some derpy and douchie things, and they'll continue to do so, but that doesn't mean anyone should scam them back... Two wrongs don't make a right.

two wrongs don't make a right. If you don't like gamestop just do what I did, stop shopping there! Amazon is my new best friend ;-)

No one should be shopping at Game Stop anyway.

The internet is full of people trying to sell their games cheaper than Game Stop does (for the most part).

Imagine its the holidays. You're dealing w fifteen customer issues a packed register etc etc and some guy says "I bought this. It didn't work. Fix this situation" you make the customer happy and think you knocked one small problem out of the park.

Your boss finds out you got scammed. Maybe its happened to you before and you get fired.. What then?

The little people get fucked. Not the business. You want to show your displeasure do so with your wallet.

People like your friend disgust me. You know how many people I've caught trying to return different shoes then what's on the receipt, damaged shoes, sometimes NOT EVEN SHOES?
I call security each and every fucking time. Fuck that.

this sums it up. dont do it

This is exactly why I say "Fuck Game Stop!".

Aren't they supposed to be experts in games/gamers. Nothing but another big box retailer looking out for their own. No rspect for their merch. or their customers.

I can't believe this is topic is even a question. People, if you answer anything but a resounding NO It's NOT RIGHT, then you you need to re-evaluate your moral compass. It's stealing and whether you agree or not with how Game Stop does business, it gives no one the right to steal from them and that's exactly what this is. As far as what to do about your friend, as the old adage goes, "you can tell a lot about someone by the friends he keeps". He doesn't sound like someone I'd want around me or my family. It's pretty black and white...

I bought five games from gamestop. I know they have the 7 day returns but I didn't get around to playing any of it for over two weeks, no shit, two of the five games were fucked up and wouldn't work. I had a receipt, couldn't return it less than a month later even though I bought it and it was defective.

Gamestop's trade in policy sucks and they don't even check to see if the items they add to the store stock even fucking work. So I look at it this way, some guy fucked gamestop and gamestop turned around and fucked me. Is it right to try and scam them? No, not really, but their shitty buisness practices don't help anything or prevent this kinda thing from happening. So in short, they don't care if the shit works or not, they just rip you off past that 7 day grace period.

Oh, and at PJ, I really doubt that ever vigilant gamestop employee exists, they're too busy trying to sell you preorders and subscriptions to care what the hell shit you bring in.

Scamming is a form of stealing, and anyone who does this is an asshole with low morals that does whatever they can to better themselves at the expense of others, they have no respect for anyone, simple as that. The store where I work at, most of our customers are the same ones we get day in and day out (small town), and we have very loyal shoplifters too, and every time that I see someone I am certain is stealing, even though I didn't see it, but seen them eyeballing me too much or crowding together in groups, or rush away from an area where there were empty packages or hangers, I think, damn, too bad we aren't allowed to cut hands off. Same thing goes for ones actually making purchases but also try to get something for less, bringing up something without a tag, telling me it was on such and such rack at this price, but I check everything, nope, its not that price, they don't want it, or they come up with a tag from another item with a lesser price and say the tag came loose, uh-huh, bullshit. People play all sorts of tricks to get something for less or for nothing, and I say...OFF WITH THEIR HANDS!!

I used to work returns at Home Depot, I was always amazed at the returned stuff that we would take back that was either stolen or missing parts, sometimes the wrong item altogether. I big issue was people buying new drill sets and swapping out the old batteries for the new. We would take back dead plants, shit from Lowes, stuff that was several years old, I even took back a used toilet seat. I could go on and on, but they did it for the sake of customer service to a fault in my opinion. Another common scam being finding cash, debit, and check reciepts in the parking lot and grabbing that shit right of the shelf to return for cash. It's amazing how people will always find ways to cheat the system like that but at the same time, it's not like companies do a whole helluva lot to combat it either which is a shame. It's a sucky feeling when they put you in the position to help these bastards steal.

OP asked about buying something USED from GameStop. If that's the case, then no, I say who gives a fuck about GameStop's used shit they get for free anyway. GameStop doesn't even know if it works in the first place. Yeah, it may very well be because of people like "your friend" to begin with...but that's why someone shops used shit to begin with. To take gambles and save money. Which, in this shit hole fucking economy, who can blame him.

Anyone on their "high horse" saying cut off his hands, and saying how pissed they get at someone returning a used piece of shit for another used piece of shit, I ask...do you really fucking care? You GameStop employees work there for the perks in the first place. Don't say you work there because you think its a great career move or for the amazing pay. You work there to get cheap gaming shit and you're happy.

People pull huge scams all over the place. Even the people that sold you your car/house...your investor that gave you the "amazing financial advice"...doctor/insurance companies...your car repair shop that gave you a "deal" fixing the wrong part...it's everywhere. So sometimes I see how it makes the little guy feel like he's getting a little payback by swapping a controller out. But believe me, to all the righteous out there...you're getting burned somewhere right now and once you realize it, you're going to appreciate a little "payback" someday.

Just because you feel Gamestop sucks doesn't make it right.

I'm gonna get on my "high horse" and say, yep, we do care, and we do have an opinion that some of us think its a bit lousy to do something like this (for many aforementioned reasons). Of course, it's only our opinion, and you can certainly use the argument that "everybody else does it so why shouldn't I?" It's a bit of a boring and overused argument though so would be interesting to hear something different.

How is this even debatable?

Things like this fall squarely in the "if you have to ask..." category.

The ends don't necessarily justify the means. It's bad karma to stoop to their level.
