Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week's game is going to be Sky Shark.  Here are the rules:

• 1 player only
• Play until Game Over
• 3 loops only.  After you loop the game for the third time (there are 5 stages to the game), you must stop playing and take your picture.  Anyone suspected of playing the game beyond 3 loops will have their score disqualified.
• If you get a Game Over, take your picture on the high score screen (wait for it during the game's intro)
• Highest score wins
• Participation: 20,000
• GENRE: Shooter/Shoot 'Em Up

The contest ends Sunday, 8/5/18 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Hmm, I can barely beat this game just one loop, and I probably won't even get that far this week. Interested to see what kind of scores we'll see this week.

This game is hard as hell.  At least for me. I'm sure for the shooter pros on here that it's a breeze to beat three loops on one life.

I played this a lot as a kid. Still a bit rusty.

First time playing and found this to be fun be incredibly frustrating.

I havent played yet, but got a feeling it's gonna be tough to even get participation

Not as rough as you'd think. Fortunately you can get 20k before even clearing the first level and you start with a bunch of lives and bombs.

 

Well that’s not bad.  As long as I don’t need to beat the first level.  You might remember legendary wings where I couldn’t even reach the participation score, embarrassing 
 

And this game is quite a bit tougher than Legendary Wings. However it's not as bad in terms of getting participation.
 

Right on cause it’s gonna be a one and done for me.  Although I also said that to myself about Ski or Die.   By the way I just checked the leaderboards and me and you are neck and neck.  After this week you’ll be ahead of me though
 

I lucked out this year and got some games that I was already pretty good at such as Palamedes, Ninja Gaiden 2, Double Dragon and Trojan.

Unfortunately I've never played any of the remaining contest games after this week. I have played Qix before but not the NES port.



 

Yeah same here mostly, I’ve also played Qix and also Hatris.  You might like Hatris, it’s a slow paced puzzler and the speed rises slowly.  Played a bit of Super Pitfall, SCAT, and Batman Returns, but never seriously or anything.  

Oddly looking forward to Bandai Golf, though I have a feeling it’s gonna be a little jank even for a prehistoric golf sim.  Bandai’s known for that

For me this game is as hard as Star Force and I don't enjoy it very much.
 

Ha, I was just waiting for Arn & co. to come in and knock me down.  

My goal is to get six digits. I've come really close. The game can just be really unfair. I'm able to consistent get through stage 1 with 0-1 death, but then stage 2 is a bear toward the latter bits (I'm only guessing that it's toward the end).

Edit: I did it! Six, bam. May or may not play anymore.
