Here is a software that "helps" a bit to make snes games easier

the developer is a kid like 15 years old, and he told me that on the next release you can implement character sprites real easy etc.

May be something to look at.

Maybe when it's complete, but for now, that SNES Game Maker isn't useful, and depending on how well it optimizes the code before compiling, could be a determining fact if a full game is even possible, or what kind of games might be limited to making it.

Devster is working on a SNES Basic to help get people into actual programming for the SNES, which once people learn the limitations of a high level language for a limited machine, they'll move over to C or ASM.

Does the game, written in Family BASIC, technically be considered homebrew?..

I can't imagine why not. As long as the software was written from the ground up.

I would say it's a homebrew indeed, exactly what Derek said.
Reminds me of the times when I coded crappy BASIC text games on my Commodore 64   - That shit actually got me into coding! I even did a horse racing game with sprites. I was so proud of that one

EDIT: Didn't see that post was already 2 months old   - Oh well

using BASIC historically was the essence of homebrew in as far homebrew = bedroom development

My first game (when i was like 12 years old) was a text based adventure about visiting a friends' house, going upstairs and petting their dog written in qbasic, lol

I'd play that game.

Thats  so funny!  My first game was I was a lot younger was written in QBASIC as well.  I just found the folder with my graphics layouts and a copy of all the code. It was printed in like a 5 font though lol.

I got my start in QBasic. I actually think there are quite a few retro coders who grew up on some form of basic, and quite a few of those were QBasic users.   My oldest timestamped QBasic file is from 1997, haha, a few months after I started taking lessons...

I remember working on an RPG in QBasic with my brother and a friend of ours. It was called "Quest of the Dummydum Man". You could choose a name and character class, and were then dropped onto a map screen with a single village. If you entered the village, you'd see a house. When you touched the house, it would vanish. And that was it.

Made quite a few games that turned out much better, but that was always a classic.
