Hello everyone, Happy Easter, and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  The Easter Bimmy has quite a treat for you this week, so put down your Easter baskets and the chocolate eggs and come gobble some ghosts in Ms. Pac-Man.  This week we will be playing the Tengen unlicensed version of Ms. Pac-Man and not the Namco licensed version.  The unlicensed version has some settings that are not included in the licensed version, so make sure you are playing the right one.  Here are the rules:

  • 1 player only
  • Set Pac Booster to "Use A or B"
  • Play on Normal
  • Set Maze Selection to Strange
  • Start on Level 1
  • Play until Game Over
  • To get your score, start a new game, pause the game and press and hold Up on the directional pad
  • Highest score wins
  • Participation: 10,000
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 4/12/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Beware the Bimmy Marsh!

I actually really enjoy this game, and I can do better at it than I ever did on Ninja Gaiden a few weeks ago. I'll try to get off my butt and participate this week.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

Either the controls are really loose or my controller is failing. Most of my deaths are due to the controller not going the direction I pressed.

I've had two controllers crap out on me since starting this year's contests.

How does the game handle to you? I just want to know others' opinions as right now the game handles like complete crap. The controls feel very delayed and unresponsive. It may be because I'm playing on an emulator, but I haven't had any problems before this. I may just sit this one out.

Doesn't feel slippery at all to me (top loader w/ dogbone).

I just played it on my NES, and emulator, and this game has pretty tight controls. Doesn't seem loose at all. I usually play pac-man by holding the direction I want to go as I come up to the turn. There are some versions that doesn't work, but this game seems fine.

Maybe I have a bad rom. I'm using the same controller to play Mega Man Powered Up on a PSP emulator and I'm having no issues.

I wouldn't think the rom would be the problem.  What emulator are you using?  I use FCEUX with a NES controller hooked up to a USB adapter.

The first run through I played on my emulator and didn't even use the booster.  Then I played on my NES, and used the booster, and it was a little more difficult to control in some situations...like when there aren't walls on either side of you...

Not sure. I know the boost feature can be a blessing and a curse as it can get you out of some jams but it also gives you "overcontrol" and can get you killed because you can't turn corners well. The only things I can think of are maybe I'm holding the boost button too long before I turn, there is a little residual boost even after you release the button,or emulator lag. I use Nestopia. I have Fceux, but I like Nestopia just a bit better.

^I think it's just the way it is.  Without playing it on your setup, I can't be sure, but sounds like it's just the game.  Plays the same for me on emulator or original hardware.  I play boosted for about 99% of the time.

Played the crap out of this game back on my Apple IIe, but didn't have any boost option.  The Twingalaxies high score (no boost allowed) is 78,620.  Might have to tackle that as well.

This is going to be a fun week!

That low?! I beat that last night on normal, arcade settings,no boost. I was fooling around with all the settings last night. Co-op sounds amazing. Too bad I have no one else to play it with. Have you tried playing it on crazy? Geez.... And Stage 8....lol. Shameless plugs.... This game has lots of cool features but to me nothing beats the original arcade version.

Great scores so far everyone.

I think the TG record isn't worth consideration, all the hardcore players are probably after the standard Pac-Man version records.

I'm guessing it's emulator lag. I tried two different controllers and still had the same issue with FCEUX.
