Any chance of Nintendo Power scans?

How about scans of some the earlier issues of Nintendo Power?  I used to have quite a few, but I tossed them for the sake of space a few years back.

Specifically, I've been looking for scans of Issue #17, the Final Fantasy strategy guide.  Maybe have that particular one show up under the FF entry?

Scanning magazines is not easy. They are hard to get a good image for one, and it would prob destroy the magazine that was scanned by pressing it flat on the scanner. Don't even want to think of the legal issues of it I would enjoy it as well though...Dain's call.

Well, from a legal standpoint, I think the full manual scans are about as legal as full magazine scans.

Either way, there was a site that had a torrent of the first 100-ish issues of NP...I wished I'd saved it to a couple DVDs (it clocked in at 10-11GB).

Found the site with NP scans: Retromags.com

Maybe a shared effort with them for some the strategy guides?

i have all of these and talked to Dain about it and he said something like the first 50 issues or so (whatever ones deal with the nes).
Retromags can only do up to a certain issue number because of legality issues and they are well past 50 so I don't think its a problem.

NES support ended with volume 67 (the 10 year anniversary special in volume 78 notwithstanding).

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I don't think it's really a question of legality so much as it's a question of whether or not it's illegal enough for Nintendo to go after you for it. I've often wondered if I'd have to take down the manuals at some point, but thankfully not yet. I hope (but doubt) Nintendo sees the value in having a site that chronicles their original gaming system, but who knows. I'd like to have all the NP's scanned, but also think it could potentially get us in trouble.

I think since the manual box and cart scans are just for viewing nintendo would probally never say anything. I think the only way a problem would ever arrive would be someone starting a site and tried to sell copies of the manuals

Wouldn't scans of the box and cart label be as illegal as those of a manual ?

The manual's purpose is information, the box and cart have different purposes. Visually reproducing the cart and box do not violate their purposes, reproducing the manual does.

Digitizing a manual is more like dumping and uploading a game ROM, they both violate copyrights. But if it were illegal to take and post photos of product packaging, or the items contained therein, every eBay seller would be in deep trouble

I have a 5Gb file with the 145 first issues of Nintendo Power + some games strategy guides.
The original bittorrent file is still working with only 4 seeders, I could join them so that the upload will go faster.
Can I link to the bittorrent file on this forum?

gamescanner.org has some Nintendo scans too.

Sure. Or, if you have a DVD burner, just zip 'em up, burn 'em and mail them to me on disk. If you don't have one and someone else here is willing to do that, it would be great. Shags2odope said he had some/most of these already. Maybe he'll chime in and see if he can burn and send them. Because of the way I use VPN and RD connections locally, torrents don't work well for me.

Here's the torrent link:
http://www.mininova.org/tor/36869...

They are allready compressed with winrar, so I guess I'll have to split them up on 2 dvd's.
But if Shags2odope have them, I guess it's easier for him to mail them since he live on your side of the pond

Hee,Hee, I did all the edits on the early Retromags releases (before Philly bounced me without reason). I am also heading up a project to scan all the Official Nintendo Players Guides. All of the early era books are done. I am up to the N64 guides now. You can download the torrents at http://www.underground-gamer.com...

Oh yeah, I also have all of the "Nintendo Fun Club News" issues scanned.....any interest? I wouldn't mind if Dain wants to host them.

@Dain

If you do want to host Nintendo Power, I have issues 1-20something (the ones I worked on) with all the 2 page spreads joined. It makes reading the maps soooo much easier. I never understood why philly wanted me to keep the pages seperate for the retromags release.....

Message me if interested.
