Just wondering if this is legitimate? Looks pretty dodgey to me, and the quality sticker on the back doesn't oooze...quality

Yep, it's legit -- Sharp released a TV with a built-in NES. Unfortunately, it looks like it's missing the black controllers that came with it, along with the other parts the seller mentioned as being missing, though you can find those controllers loose on occasion. I personally wouldn't buy it unless it had all the parts.

That's what I've heard, but I can't personally verify that. It would certainly make sense, but I thought someone said at one point there was a store (Sears?) that sold them to the general public as well. Speedy_NES might know more about this, so hopefully he'll chime in.

Auction description says only 500 were made. Can anybody verify this? I thought this was semi-mass produced.

I'm thinking that probably is just trying to get some more interest generated for the item on his behalf.  They seem to pop up for sale a bit too regularly to have that small of a production run.  Also, the back sticker has a manufacture date of 1989...if it was around 1993 or later I would think the production run may have been smaller but the NES was still going strong at this point.

The SN also show over 519,000, but I sort of doubt there were that many made.
