That was only if the score didn't continue to add up, remember I'd questioned that, neither of us were sure at the time, but it does so I say, use 'em up. No rules against it with the Twin Galaxies rules either that I posted, at least this'll give the less experienced players more of a chance to get some high scores in.

I don't think continues should be allowed.

EDIT to add:  I think as a pretty blanket rule, none of the Twin Galaxies scores involve continues, do they?

The rules from twin galaxy u posted say factory default [no continues] actually, thus the confusion

Ah, okay, no continues it is. Then I'll just have to beat the game as it did my third time, I can do that. Then I won't post my scores, not until I can beat the game again without using continues, must beat it, otherwise I don't count it.

Is anyone reminded of Sonic 3D Blast?

Sure, but the other way around. Sonic 3D Blast was pretty fun too.

Okay, so I beat Snake Rattle 'n Roll 3 times in a row today, but this time, beat Snake Rattle 'n Roll without using any continues, so that's twice ever now doing this good, see I knew I could pull through with it soon enough. My score is not quite as good as it could've been though, didn't take as many risks as I could've, I know I should've, maybe next time. I forget how many deaths that was, will have to play the video and see before I upload it to Youtube. Will post that when I can, it was pretty good play.

Okay, update, had 6 deaths total, yay, even better than the 3rd time I ever beat the game which I had 8 deaths on, so upload time!

1st death in level 5 (missed flying carpet over spike bed)
2nd death in level 6 (slipped over edge of last waterfall)
3rd death in level 7 (accidentally pushed on the d-pad when I wasn't supposed to while attacking ice foot and slithered over last ledge)
4th death in level 10 (slipped off an ice slope)
5th death in level 10 (fell while jumping to very last ledge on the mountain)
6th death in level 10 (missed the door when I jumped to it, doh)

Good grief! I lost a ton of lives on Level 4. Once of the round-the-corner jumps kept getting me, then I managed to get up to Level 6 (the gray castle level).

I don't think I'd ever gotten past Level 4 before today, but I've only played the game a half-dozen times or so, ever.

I'm sitting in the 220's for my first play.

I'm doubtful I'll catch you Marble-Madness-Masters.

Play it enough, you'll be amazed at how good you can get at something.

Well, the execution of this type of game on the NES, with the offset controls just doesn't really do it for me.

That's why I have so little play experience with this game and Marble Madness.

Understandable, they are very difficult games to play.

I'd like to play on the console, I check everywhere in my house, it seems I don't have a cart for this game, and I can't find Marton to pass one to me.
I'm trying it on the emulator, but man, control are bad with my joystick.
I never played the game through, but I find it very fun. I'll try a couple more times on the emu, but if the control just piss me off, I'll give up for this week.

I'd be surprised if you didn't do well at it Guile. It's like Marble Madness with jumping and eating things.

They are very similiar, but being good at one doesn't quite mean you'd be for the other, with practice, possibly, or most definitely, depending on the gamer playing. Snake Rattle 'n Roll involves lots of  precise jumping, a platformer played at an angle, Marble Madness requires speed and accuracy while rolling, with momentum being part of the challenge, over varying terrain.

I think I'm good at it, I just don't really know this game like I knew marble madness. I actually never played through Snake Rattle completely, I just played the game a few times, mainly cause you can play 2 players simultaneously.

But seriously, that's the kind of game, like marble madness, that you want to play with the Nes controller. I need this cart before Sunday...

Okay, vids uploaded for my no continues used gameplay, http://www.youtube.com/view_play_...

Anyone having trouble with the boss ice foot at the end of the game on the moon, and really, really wants to beat it, may want to check out that last vid, this thing has become pretty easy now. My only trouble is that I have to switch hands in order to do it which is also the case anytime I need rapid fire, using my right for the d-pad and my super awesome left fingers for the buttons, the trade-off for rapid fire, not being able to control very well.

Sometimes this maneuver gets me killed in a game, such as space shooters and similiar games, but if I don't the battles with enemies or bosses that take a huge amount of hits are very drawn out. Much of my game of Fester's Quest when I beat that long ago without using an actual controller with turbo fire, I had to reverse hands constantly, but thankfully that last ice foot in Snake Rattle 'n Roll is the only place that i need do this, and that they give just enough room to beat it without having to change directions.

I mention this because if you watch, you'll notice how I don't dare chase after it once it gets to a certain point, because I'd most likely run into it, or get smooshed by a meterorite or even slide over the edge due to lack of control. Also, the spot that I chose to fight it feels the safest for me. But if you guys got good quick right hand fingers, this foot should be a snap for you using the same strategy.

Well, second play-through of this contest I hit the upper 200's by level 6. I need to adopt a new strategy against those stupid bouncing bells.

Also, I still lost an inordinate number of lives falling off on levels 4 and 5

If you can jump to the edge of each platform they're on (I'm guessing you mean the part where there are 3 on steps up), then you can kill them by another jump atop or just several tongue hits...  or you can be on the step below, and jump and hit with the tongue, takes a few seconds, but it's foolproof for not getting it.

Level 5 is a pain for jumping, but once you get it down, it'll be a cinch.  The second half of 4 is tough too.

The second half of 4 got me more than anything on 5. 5 just has that one obnoxious part where you jump directly on the reverser.

Okay, two games of Snake Rattle 'n Roll today.

First try, nearly lost it, didn't play so good, made it though on my last life before using a continue, so all was safe for being able to post the score I got to this contest, and at least my score was a little bit higher than my previous effort despite sloppy game playing.

Next try, much, much better, could've actually beat it with only 4 deaths, but screwed up on the ice foot on the moon and lost 2 lives by running into it, but still, it was a great game, 6 deaths total, overall the best I ever played it, because I could've actually pulled off a 1 death gameplay if it weren't for some of those stupid ones I had, and I had an awesome score to go along with it. I the few deaths I had in the game were in really dumb easy spots, but I made up for it by playing the more difficult sections like a pro, even the climb up that icy mountain in level 10.

1st death in level 4 (died when I jumped out of the bonus stage, crap, that was dumb)
2nd death in level 7 (stomped on by ice foot, misjudged where I was in relation to where it stamped down at)
3rd death in level 10 (jumped from too high of a spot when jumping down to the scale, don't know what I was thinking doing that)
4th death in level 10 (slipped off of one of the icy slopes on the mountain, only death that I fully expect to happen)
5th death in level 11 (due to lack of control, having to reverse hands, using my right to move so that I can attack rapidly with my speedy left hand fingers, ran into the ice foot)
6th death in level 11 (same as previous death)

Well, for my third play, I made it to Level 5 without dying, but lost 2 stupid lives on that one. (one at the poorly placed reverser, and then got pushed off by a piston, which was REALLY dumb). But Level 6 continues to thwart me.

I got to the part with a door on the wall that keeps flinging out bells. I lost all of my lives trying to figure out how to get in that damn door.

Edit to add:  Wow!  So those gold half-moons were "fish tail" powerups   And they let me swim up the waterfall!  How the heck are you supposed to know that without looking it up?

Whoa, don't try to get in that door, you can't!

When it spits out bells, it also spits out a powerup, which allows your snake to climb the waterfall to the left (by pressing A rapidly). You'll know it when you see it, it's vastly different, but be careful, it'll crush you the same as the bells if it hits you, but once it lands, grab it.

That should vastly improve things.
