Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week, we delve into the territory of unlicensed games.  But don't worry, despite their reputation for not being good, this one is actually fun to play.  Let me introduce you to the one, the only, Krazy Kreatures.  Here are the rules, you krazy, kool kats:

• 1 player only
• Play on Easy difficulty
• Start on Level 1
• Play until Game Over
• Take your picture on the Game Over screen
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Puzzle

The contest ends Sunday, 11/9/14 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

Actually, I have only played this game once.  However!  I beat the game on my first try.  I just love puzzle games!

This game is pretty crazy, but fun. I'm hoping to try again later this week. I never played this before but it's definitely a title I'm glad I got to try.

Yeah, just beat it on my first playthrough.

Not sure what my feeling is about the game... some of the combo set ups are neat, but some of the pacing is bad and I think it has two or three times as many icons as it needs.

Could probably do a lot better if I used diagonals more frequently to bring out bigger combos.
But I didn't really find the game interesting enough to play it again.  I am guessing that 500k is readily doable, though the way scores scale in the game could make any guess wildly inaccurate.

So apparently my score is higher than the current world record, so I wonder how much more intense "medium" is than "easy", since that is what Twin Galaxies uses.

Is the timer shorter, giving you less opportunity to clear combos before the next level?
Or is the initial generation faster, leading to you dying?


BTW, how do you even die in this game? I just kept clearing stuff as fast as I could the whole time, so I never really pondered what actually killed you

I have no clue on your questions because I too have only played on Easy and never lost!

On another topic, as far as games go, I find Krazy Kreatures to be incredibly exhausting to play ... both mentally and physically.  My hands can't keep up as fast as my brain.

If the kreatures fill the entire screen at the start of the wave and prevent you from moving then you die. I only played twice so far so I'm not sure if thats the only way to die...

For fun, I decided to continue. You get to keep your score when you continue! I ended up with almost 360K, which, of course, doesn't count.

I'll try again tomorrow.

I just got out of the hospital and am laid up in bed from a burst appendix that had to get cut out, so now is as good a time as ever to get back into these competitions. I will try to post a score depending on how I feel within these next couple days.

I think I was under 200k when I finished the final wave, but I didn't note the exact score and was pleasantly surprised by the completion bonus.



I tried to start a second game yesterday, but knowing I was going to have to slog through 32 levels just made it un-fun.

I'm not sure what they could have done to make this game "good", but whatever it was they didn't do it, IMO.

Hmm, now I have to debate whether coming in better than 3rd is sufficient motivation to replay this thing :/

I feel like I'd have to set up some pretty big combos to make up an extra 70k pts, but that first playthrough I didn't do any crosses or diagonals, only extra-long lines by being 1-short on each end and filling in the middle.

Maybe I'll give it a try.

So now I can't seem to beat the game anymore. I tried twice more last night and was really banking points before I lost.
