And the sad part is my cousin lives on that side of town and he talked about getting illegal fireworks...

We are going to go check it out. This was posted on somebodies facebook that lives in town so until we head back home in a couple of hours, I can only imagine how it is. But from the looks of that photo, not so good at all.

And to be completely honest, I haven't heard if it was caused by fireworks but come on, its fourth of july. I didn't notice until now that i'm taking a leap of faith assuming but the chances are on my side.

Yeah, it could've been a couple of drunk people decided to set off fireworks...it would make sense given the time.

Jesus, I sure hope everyone is okay. That looks pretty bad. Although yeah, chances are it was some drunk people with fireworks.

ANYTHING misused is dangerous, Fireworks, Cars, Alcohol, Dynomite, you name it.

I don't think making it illegal, as they are already in many states, solves anything, as people just traffic them in to their given state.

Edit...  I guess to follow up, I think they should make it illegal to fire off, within a given distance of houses, and maybe educate people, or offer a license after taking a short class etc.  You know, do something that might actually work.

So we just got home right now and it's a mess. People have been evacuated and that bog fire ball looking thing in the photo in my first post is actually a grape field. Or should I say was a grap field. This is going to leave hundreds of people without jobs in a already tough economy. I can't even begin to estimate how much money is being lost right now. Just rows upon rows of grapes on fire.

That's terrible! I'm not really into lighting fireworks and stuff.... they're cool to watch, I guess. I wouldn't go out of my way to find illegal fireworks or anything like that though. That's seriously from fireworks?! Sheeesh....

I'm originally from Tulare but my girlfriend and family live here. I know exactly what you mean but it's peaceful here. We are getting a walmart and a market place so things are looking up lol. Don't let this small place fool you, a lot of valuable stuff pops out in swap meets around this area.

As of right now it's being confirmed it's from illegal fireworks. There are house right next to the grape field so it was probably a fire work that didn't propel properly.

If fireworks were regulated so that they had a guaranteed purity and reliability, then I'd agree that they should be legal.

But as it is, they're inherently dangerous because they're an item of unknown quality that is explosive.

While they are fun to use, there is really no safe or responsible way to use an explosive device with as many unknowns as fireworks (fuse behavior, propellent behavior, explosive mixture, etc).

Oddly, here in South Carolina, where we have no doubt, the biggest collective of inbred morons in the country.....fireworks are legal, statewide, and sold year round. I live really close to the ocean, and have lost track of the number of times, I have heard fireworks go off, at a hotel or resort, and hear the firetrucks, 10 minutes later. Retards + Explosives = Havoc.

That is always an idea.   You have a great place to shoot stuff off, esp when you don't have to worry about burning the campout tent down! lol

No way a firecracker cause that....probably a rocket into a tree or a fountain or something.

Last year we got one illegal firecracker and blew it up in my cousins yard far away from anything...loudest bang I've ever heard! Left about 6" diameter hole in the ground about 2 inches deep. I couldn't imagine somebody being stupid with something as powerful as that. My friend got hit with a firecracker in the face on year and had to go the hospital for decent wounds on his face. As long as you're having fun bot not being retarded with fireworks, it's okay, and a licensing class is a great idea, but I can't imaging it'd be forcing common sense ideas, which people will still not follow. But I don't believe they should be illegal. If you gave them bigger fireworks, they can afford less and actually get scared of them.

Damn, a mortar probably went off in their stash and everything went off...they were probably trying to put it out but the rockets were going off and hitting them. If people kept their fireworks away from other flammable/explosive objects everything would be fine, and they probably wouldn't be illegal in my state.

Firecrackers aren't that harmful, but anything equivalent to a real m80 is and shouldn't be lit near people (unless it's the ones with the plastic caps, they just suck).

I used to love shooting fireworks. Now that I've gotten older, have bills to pay and a family to take care of, not so much. We spent $20 yesterday which included a bunch of small stuff for the little man to enjoy watching (no booms, just sparkle items like tanks and fountains). Then we watched our neighbors risk their lives and spend hundreds of dollars on the big stuff

I'm sure more deaths occur from firearms or vehicle accidents still.  Life is full of risks.

I would rather enjoy life and take my chances where I choose, instead of the government deciding which risks I should take for me.

Well, the other major factor is also the risk of starting wildfires in drought states.

You're not just taking risks that affect you, and I wouldn't want some jackass taking actions that result in millions of taxpayer dollars being spent on fire suppression.
