So this brand new physical media store opened in my town, music, movies, videogames, books, etc, and it's absolutely amazing. A super nice, organized store run by passionate employees. Literally every customer just seems to have this look of joy about them when they are in the store. I've been dreaming for years that a store like this would come back to my town. Today wasn't my first time in the store in the few weeks its been open, but it's actually the first time I went through the videogames (I've been so glued to the vinyl section)
Suddenly I came around a corner and my jaw dropped. Not even behind a counter or anything, just on shelves....retro games everywhere. Except for the portables, they aren't in cases or anything. They're just....there. There for you to pick up and examine at your own free will. I was dumbfounded. I simply assumed they wouldn't carry anything before XB1/PS4/WiiU so I hadn't bothered to browse before. How stupid of me. Almost every game had a great condition label. The only one I saw that was a little beat up was a SNES Super Metroid for $28.97. I wouldn't say they had anything jawdroppingly rare, but who knows what I've missed since the store has been open a few weeks.
The best part? They charge NOTHING for dust covers or manuals. Genesis CIB's were the same exact prices as the cart onlys. In fact when I got up to the register, the cashier didn't even know what the dust covers were. I was able to take them from any game I wanted and put them with the games I bought, most stores never allow me to do that. I tried to keep my purchase low but I picked up a few things I didn't have. Couldn't pass up on Genesis CIB's with hangtabs for under a dollar. Keep in mind New Hampshire is sales tax free. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this store all the time now. My days of shopping online for retro games might be over.
There is a new heaven in my town, and its name is Bull Moose.
