So any idea anyone on the rules. I read over the ones at Twin Galaxies, had a hard time understanding it all, too much.

Here are the rules for the extreme scoring:

: 1 Life Game [Recording ends either when you lose your 1ST LIFE OR when the game is completed in accordance with the rules outlined below.]

Special Rules: Your scoring attempts ends when either you lose your 1ST LIFE or when you enter the Final Chamber after Bowser's defeat. Going through walls you normally can't go through [such as in Bowser's castle] and the Wall-Jumping tactic are NOT allowed! You may not skip any Levels, including fortresses [And their boss, Boom Boom], Hammer Brothers and any other side levels [including the 3 hand levels in World 8. All Mushroom Houses and Card Games are ENTIRELY Optional]. You are NOT allowed to use Whistles for ANY REASON and doing so will result in an AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.

Please note, under these Extreme rules with a Single Life, Full Point pressing is not only permitted but encouraged! The maximum score attainable is 9,999,990 points.

If you successfully complete the game, you may use your time for the Fastest Full Completion time.

[Wall-Jumping is defined as jumping against a wall [or pipe] in such a manner that a pixel or two of Mario is stuck in the wall [or Pipe] and is able to use that to jump again, far higher then can be done normally. Further definition; Mario cannot be made to jump off of a surface that is 90 degrees perpendicular to the ground. Please note this can be further used to also go through solid objects not normally passable as is disallowed.]

...................................................................
I vote for this one

also, I guess you'd have to add no Modusco method or any other turtle rocking (tanooki tail) type technique.

Agreed, no Modusco method or anything similar if it's possible in other levels.

I like the "1 life rule". Otherwise it's too easy to live forever in this game. You have to be terrible at it to actually get a game over.

WOW, SMB3 in the contest, that must bring participation.

I agree on the 1 life rule, it will make the contest more challenging, cause the game is not.

Is the "modusco method" where you get the succession of points from killing goombas, dry bones, etc... until you get the one ups? If not, what is it? And what's the best way to get a recording?

The "modusco method" is how he dominated the NCC challenge by clearing out the same clump of Paratroopas repeatedly in Level 1-1.

Personally, I think any of the similar places (1-ups from Dry Bones in the first fortress, the continually dumping Goomba-pipe in 1-2) are cheating for the purposes of this contest.

Since SMB3 is SO easy, and there are SO many spots to abuse, I think that a "1-life game" where you don't abuse point generation ANYWHERE, and you don't warp is the only way to go.

Basically, the TG rules that Robin posted.

Okay, so no continuous bouncing ricocheting shells, and continuous hopping using raccoon/tanuki powers without touching the ground for a prolonged time aren't allowed. But what's this other thing spoke of, turtle rocking? Don't understand this. So we aren't allowed to hit koopas with tail power? I don't get it.

Power ups and suits are allowed though? If so, to what extent? P-Wing to fly over an entire level not okay? Raccoon flight okay due to limitations of needing a runway to take off? We need to know every detail before this starts.

What about continuous looping in certain levels such as fortresses, like that one in world 7 filled with a crapload of bricks which can be changed to coins, allowed to continuously enter, exit and reenter same screens over and over again to gain higher score quicker? Trying to think of everything here so we don't have any gaps in the rules.

I think by "turtle rocking" he's referring to keeping a shell aloft by hitting it with your tail repeatedly.

I think any level that looping is possible should require direct navigation to the ext.

I don't think you need item restrictions other than the whistles. P-Wings are rare enough that they can't really be abused, and you don't get a lot of points for just flying over a level anyway.

The 1 life rule take care of this kind of points racking. You can loop in the coins fortress as long as you can, but must pass it before the time clock is at 0.

Really, I think the 1 life rule would allow to profit a maximum to whatever loop possible in any stage, considering the time clock as the limit.

not really.  does that mean we should be able to milk that kind of thing?  because that would be dumber.  i think we should amend the point pressing to what we have been talking about.

With one life you should be able to do what ever the hell you want. The only thing that shouldn't be allowed is using the whistle to warp backwards. Otherwise this is going to be to complicated. And it already is.
