Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This week’s game is going to be Adventure Island 3.  Here are the rules:
 
 

• Play until Life 0
• You may not play any of the game on Life 0.  Once you get to this point, you must stop playing and take your picture.  Anyone suspected of playing the game on Life 0 will have their score disqualified.
• Highest score wins
• GENRE: Action/Platformer

 
 
The contest ends Sunday, 5/17/15 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

I never got very far into this one before, we'll see what happens this week.

Missed out on getting Bucky again this last week for $76. I will get it for less than $80.

You guys should buy a Powerpak/Everdrive and be done forever with the problem of not owning a cart in time

I've never been a big fan of these games as they are very cheap and unforgiving. Plus I've always hated the hunger (hurry up) meter. Giving this one a chance though. This would have been a perfect arcade game. And is it me,or does Master Higgins look like he's suffered a stroke? I guess aliens kidnapping your girlfriend would do it.

I have a PowerPak...I just like having the original cart as well.

Yeah, I understand that too, but I'm saying this as a very general advice to everyone. We are reticent to choose expensive games for contest just because we know less people might own the cart, but if most would own such flash cart device, we could pick about anything without worrying about it. This said, there aren't that much costly games that are good for a contest...

Swap Little Samson for Adventure Island 3. (I have no idea if LS keeps score.)

Yes, I agree.  Besides the fact of being able to play the games on original hardware, it's just much more convenient.  I have all my games up on shelves right behind me in my game room, but I need a new 72-pin connector in my TV.  I just leave the PowerPak in there all the time.  Takes out the pain of getting each game to work too.

Just an FYI for the judges, the Stage 4 boss spawns these 200 pt. enemies indefinitely. Basically anyone that reaches him could point rack there and potentially max out their score

I think I am going to start participating in these, I tried AI3 earlie today and enjoyed it so this should be an easy one to get a decent score at!

New and improved score!  World 5 is giving me issues.  Of course playing on I was able to get two more lives on this last life and squeeze out another 20K in points ... maybe next time. 

Starting playing a little last night, making some headway. Scored around 49k once but usually end around 30-25. Going to keep at it and post something here probably tomorrow or Friday
