I used to play it all the time on the PC, I always liked the capture the flag games people would make, I was pretty good at it.

#124: N64 Padfolio

0

I should have taken a picture of the inside of this, as there's a nifty calculator built in.  Just a standard padfolio to take with you to business meetings, legal proceedings, etc.  the list goes on!  Like I said before, I'm not a big fan of the N64, but I do like the different padfolios Nintendo had for their employees...how bad is it when you can say you have a padfolio collection?

It's an internal employee item--as far as I know none of the padfolios were store employee giveaways, so you had to be an employee working for Nintendo to get one.  I don't follow them too religiously, but I can think of around 8 different ones I've seen.  I own 4 of them...or 5?  Dang I'm getting old, I can't even remember what I have anymore!

#125: Promotional Plants Vs Zombies Figures

As soon as I played the PC version of Plants Vs Zombies when it first came out I was hooked. I am not big into playing video games but this is certainly one of those games I could just pick up and before I would realize it, the entire day would have gone by. Even though this franchise is relatvely new, I think it has great collecting potential right now because of two main factors: It already has a stong cult following with both casual and advanced players, and right now they have almost no merchandise to speak of.

While the first standard Zombie was also a giveaway at E3, the remaining two (I believe) were only sent out to members of the media/press and PopCap employees. I love the fact that on the bottom of the boxes is the text 'For Ages 15 and Up. This is not a toy, this is a collectable.'

How do you end up where you are if you do not like playing video games?

Those figures are cool though.

It's not that I don't like playing games, I just never give myself the time to play.  I have friends that are into all the current gen games and I just kind of shrug and normally say 'no thank you' when they ask me to play.

#126: Plants Vs. Zombies Promo Poster

This is a poster that was used to promote the 360 and DS versions of Plants Vs. Zombies. I really like how all the rays in the background stem from the Zombie's head. I'm not much of a design buff, but that little detail really ties the entire poster together for me!  Big thanks to P1R4T3 for trading with me for this at the campout!

#127: PvZ Concept Art--Grinder Zombie

As my slow decent into madness continues, I find myself more and more enamored with this game.  This is the original design they came up with for what became the Jack-in-the-Box Zombie.  This aptly named 'Grinder Zombie' is made of wood and is one of the (allegedly) one-of-a-kind items that Popcap has been auctioning off for charity.  I was so excited to get this, so excited to open this and then so dismayed that there is a very noticeable (at least in person) 3 inch scratch below his right eye...it was damaged between the time the auction picture was taken and the time it was shipped as the damage wasn't done in transit.  It's as if someone went 'OMG, a Zombie!' and took a swipe at it with a razor blade.  This made me very sad, but this tragedy is being rectified as I write this...TO BE CONTINUED!

Ugh, Electronic Arts bought PopCap for $750 Million today EA is famous for ruining franchises, hopefully Plants vs. Zombies doesn't follow suit. Command and Conquer was my favorite franchise of all-time, then when EA bought Westwood Studios, I found the games pretty much unplayable.

I think that's also the same time Red Alert 3 was released, which was the biggest disappointment ever after being hooked to RA2 for years prior.

I know!  The announcement was one day after all their charity auctions ended...it will be interesting to see where it goes.  Popcap has always been about fun, addictive pick up and play games, so we'll be seeing what happens I suppose.

#128: Plants Vs. Zombies Concept Box Art

I was really bummed when I received the Grinder Zombie with a big scratch in it, so I sent them a message asking if there was anything that could be done. To my surprise, they forwarded my e-mail to the Sr. Public Relations Manager at Pop-Cap who responded very quickly. While there was nothing that could be done to fix it, he gave me the option of returning the piece for a full refund or I could receive an additional piece of art for free. Of course, being a sucker for offers like that, I hapilly accepted the free offer. I'm very impressed that Popcap didn't just brush me aside and shrug their shoulders, it really shows that they care for their customers!
This is a canvas print of some of the concept designs for the Plants Vs. Zombies PC box. It looks like originally they were going for a more menacing approach for the box art to try and capture the fighting essence of the game, but I'm actually happy they didn't choose any of these. It is a light hearted game, and none of these sketches really encompass that notion for me. Out of the eight, my personal favs are #2 and #3.

Item #129: Go! Go! Hypergrind! Concept Art

Go! Go! Hypergrind! was an animated skating game for the GameCube that didn't seem to get much attention, but it's an entertaining game.  The company that made Ren & Stimpy created the game and the characters/humor/environments within the game are very reminiscent of the dynamic duo.  While there are no character designs, I did manage to obtain some level designs and sign concepts.  I think I'll try to grab some screenshots somehow and frame them together with the originals.  My favorites are the two western designs and the horse.

Item #130: Nintendo Leather Moneyclip

I've no idea if this is old or new or available to the public...I've never noticed another one up for sale, but I don't actively search for things like this.  The only other marking is on the inside which says 'Fossil Leathers'.  The seller claimed that it was an internal item, so who knows!  I haven't decided if I'm going to actually use it or just let it sit in a box like all my other stuff.

That is rad... I'd be torn between using it and displaying it.... It seems durable enough that you could use it without ruining it.

Item #131: World Class Service Banner

This is something that has been eluding me for a long time, though I finally managed to get my hands on one.  No longer will I have Deniz envy!  The seller rolled it up, which is why it looks a bit odd, but it should iron out somehow, which I will do when I get a chance.  Anywho, World Class Service Has Arrived!

Item #132: 2001 Nintendo Source Book

Rise from your grave!!  I know most people aren't big into the GameCube era (I know I'm not), but I picked this up randomly--mainly just because of the unique binder.  This was given away at E3 in 2001 to promote the new 'The Nintendo Difference' slogan to try and remove themselves from the pack and bump themselves out of their 3rd place slump behind Microsoft and Sony.  I do appreciate how the GameCube is off to the side and in the background while the GBA seems to be basking in it's glory.  This has the same items that are usually in a media kit: Licensee info, a software index, ordering info, marketing programs, etc.  The real standout I found in the binder is a retail display catalog for May 2001-2002 that shows some concept displays that I've never seen before...namely some oddball GameCube kiosks, display fixtures and two Diddy Kong Pilot banners (a game meant for the GBA but was never released in the US)
