That said, this game can be a lot of fun if you give it a real shot.

Hint: Every stage has only 4 possible jewel formations. It gets easier to clear levels quickly once you've seen a lot of them.

The controls are so weird and counterintuitive. I'm having trouble getting used to them. For example when moving toward an enemy or black hole your natural instinct is to press the opposite direction to get away which of course is a no no.

So I just spent hours on the VGCollect site tonight updating my collection, because damnit, why not! I hardly made a dent in it. I wish their import function worked / had clear instructions! Anyone else use that site and import CSVs with success?

... That Kickle drawing... ._.
Anyway, I am working on some SNES titles currently, but I will put aside some time to get a participation score up for this game tonight.

I'm not going to say that I've peaked already, but I'm having a hard time getting into the 100K range consistently. Done it a few times, but it's so hard to avoid making dumb mistakes in this game.

I need 4th place or better to lock down the puzzle badge, and I'm not comfortable with my current score, so I'm gonna keep grinding away.

Clu Clu Land is a sleeper for difficulty on NES. The manual says that you have been through Clu Clu Land after 21 levels, or four loops. For my blog, I already know I'm gonna require five complete loops for myself since the fifth loop introduces the mechanic of covering up bars if you pass them twice. My best is Level 19 so far so I have some distance to cover yet.

I really don't feel like putting an effort this week, so you have nothing to worry about me dropping you below 4th place this time, at the very least.
I will try to get a 100K or so score and be done with it.

If you score higher than me, please just get the top score for the week.  I can't let tables catch me in the puzzle standings!

BriGuy got 143,700 in the previous Clu Clu Land contest. It'll be interesting to see if anyone tops that.

I'm still working on my score. I've got at least 10,000 points, so that's good

Okay, you got this Brock.  You only need 3,000 more points.  Just keep the enemies corralled and pick out the pattern, you got this
*Immediately whip myself into a wall, bounce straight back into an enemy and game over*

Well, I am totally tipsy, got me some more reference images for my Pauline cosplay from the Nintendo Direct today (damn, she is hot) and want to learn how to sing swingy.
Guess this' a good time to play some Clu Clu Land.

And now this is my personal best of all time.
Stage 42 with the slow, slow speed was my demise.

This is a bit better and my all time personal best on this game.
Previously I never reached stage 38, nor have I broken the 230K mark.
I will record a video next weekend. I hope to make to stage 40 next time, and improve my mark too.
I always ended with litte time on the clock and didn't kill too many enemies for those sweet, sweet 500 points per.
At some stages, they can add up quickly, I guess.

Yeah, I know. Awful score for the stage I am at.
But scoring higher than that would mean putting an effort. Not going to do.
