Hey everyone, I got an interesting topic that was gone over in the NA discord chat already. I kind of want to know everyone else's input on it. What platform is Pokemon Yellow? It can come from both sides. The box and the NA database says it is a gameboy game. But it was bundled with a Pikachu Gameboy Color and the 3ds shop (at least at one point) labeled it as a gameboy color game. To me, I could care less but it is more of a curiosity kind of thing.

I'll only concede defeat of an enhanced game with support if you compare to other similar PCB with proof.

It's a GB, GBC, SNES, GBA, GC and 3ds game.

It’s a Game Boy game with the ability to be a Color game.
 

It has GBC enhancements that aren't present in Red and Blue, making it technically a dual mode GBC game. The box saying just "Game Boy" has long been considered an error.

Doesn't seem to be fully GBC enhanced. It probably just changes between limited color palettes dynamically, as it does with the Super Game Boy.

it's not an error, it was to wipe out any question as to whether it was compatible with Red/Blue or not.

Pokemon Yellow an the GBC is limited to the enhancements made for the Super Game Boy.

In fact, it lacks the full pallette enhancements of the black cart games. Further illustrating my point.

Despite the cart shells being the color that they are here in the west (Pokemon red is red, blue is blue, etc.), in Japan, they're all gray. 

Any Gameboy game that's enhanced for GBC would be in a black cart. Much like the carts here, in japan, they're black.

Did the one we got here have enhancements? I don't own Yellow anymore to find out, and it could very well be enhanced over the Japanese version which is only a regular GB game (?)

If you stick a regular gray GB cart in a GB, GBA or GBA SP, you can get the option to change the overall palette. Can you do that with the NA GB game? This trick will not work with the already enhanced black carts nor the clear GBC ones, only gray carts.

Pokemon Yellow here has enhancements for the Super Game Boy, but not the GBC specifically; the GBC just uses the pallettes made for the SGB.

Ah, so that with it being on a gray cart in Japan confirms it. I think even Space Invaders was on a regular old GB cart, but had SGB enhancements.

Supposedly all of the original Pokemon games had SGB enhancements.

Back-in-the-day, i probably played through 50% of blue on the SGB versus playing on the GBC.
Didn't spend any time at all with that one on an original GB, since I received the game as a gift at the same time as a GBC.

I thought it was a bootleg NES game out of China?????
