I'll pick it up when it's $10 like the PS classic... only if Rondo is on it though.

I'd like a PC Engine one, as long as it's not stupid priced...

I love the old NEC system and really stacked against what Sega had out at the time, they clearly to me had the better hardware too which I know Sega fans will get made seeing written. I think it's nice and all that Konami is doing this, but they've been a fairly anti-friendly towards consumers and some of their more precious in house developers for the last few years so I don't trust them. I hope this works out well, but after reading elsewhere online some comments it got me thinking it could go either way. They're pulling a Sony and SNK right now which backfired horribly twice and around one same general problem, gracing certain markets with games that should be shared between the both and only drip feeding out a list of included games like Sony did too. I think it's is a dual rotten strategy not that it's my idea as I'm parroting social media posts here. You have some games shared already like DUngeon Explorer which is a hucard game, and then Ys Book 1 and 2 which is a CD title. So what's the deal with Bonk not on the US system yet? And what are they thinking with Castlevania not on there either?? Bonk I could understand if the US system got like that Duo pack-in Gate of Thunder as it included Bonk 1 and 2 with Bomberman as well so it would a repeat. But Castlevania, why? It was in the US on the Wii and also on the PSP too with that collection, and very very recently this year in that 2 pack on the PS4. Are they really going to play games about that and leave it in the hands of Sony system owners alone??

For me that alone would be not just a deal breaker, but I'd also actively given how good the hardware is look to buy one just to crack the thing and pirate the hell out of it. That's basically what Sony set themselves up for with a shoddy emulator, 50hz games in NTSC, bad settings, and setup of average titles leaving out key releases. What was the result, not just one but two cracks for easy loading not just their own games but others as well under one of the two. This happened to the Neo Geo Mini as well because they cherry picked very popular games and kept them in Japan only and they got sliced and diced the same way as the PS1 mini system did.

Am I being paranoid after reading such things online or maybe knowing how shady Konami has been in recent years maybe seeing a bit of what sadly is to come? I will give them credit though, 2 USB ports and already selling a turbo tap is a smart move.

Let's at least wait until all the games are announced for each before getting out the pitchforks.

This looks awesome. My pet peeve with these is that they don't have cartridge slots, and so far I've had tons of real games for all the platforms that have gotten minis. But I have no real interest in collecting TG16, so this might be fun. Especially if has the same lineup as the Japanese release mentioned above.

Nice! Yeah, that's a solid line up for sure. I think this one is cool, as it will hopefully give many people an opportunity to play some of these games for the first time, which is awesome and I think something most of us can get behind conceptually.

Pretty good lineup!
Good lineup indeed, a mix of shmups and some classics.

One thing worth mentioning that hasn't been touched on yet.  The cost of entry from a hardware perspective on TG16 is MUCH higher than NES, so the mini does have significant appeal.  Furthermore, the TG16 was very add-on dependent, you couldn't even save your game or play with AV cables unless you bought a Turbobooster.  So not only do you need the system and the game but you need peripherals.

So for games like Neutopia 1 / 2 (both included), they are great Zelda clones but it isn't worth playing them on original hardware unless you have a full setup to save too.  A mini with save states is actually a pretty significant feature here.

Now that the lineup is announced I'd expect them to sell very well around $80, $100 could be a bit much of a stretch.  And I'm not sure if I could ever see these things in the $50-$60 range unless they are massively overproduced.  The games and hardware emulation do provide a lot of value here actually.  Unlike the PS1 mess where we knew that was bad before it even hit the market.

The Japanese and American versions are very different. I'll probably pick up both.

Edit: I think I read it wrong. The American version has japanese and american games. Woo hioo!

What exactly does the TG-16 offer that the GEN and SNES don't have?

Tons of unique games, especially shooters. A fair amount of arcade ports. Some really quirky stuff that you would never see on more mainstream consoles.

all my info is thru the cupodcast but it sounds like 100 for the unit w/ 1 control. if you want a second controller, you have to buy that, plus a hub to plug it in since there's only 1 port? so probably 150 after addons and tax if you want to do 2 player games.

The definitve version of Dracula X (believe me its one of, if not the best Castlevania ever IMO), Bonk trilogy, tons of shooters (I'd say it has the best, if not second best, library of shooters ever - second only to maybe the Sega Saturn), turbo buttons built into the controller, it was the first CD system EVER (not the Sega CD as Sega falsely claimed), you could save games to the Turbo Booster or CD unit (very unique at the time), the beginning of the Bomberman series, the beginning of the Ys series......

List goes on and on IMO.  Great system!

Maybe it if the TG-16 was just $40-$50ish like it was a few years ago maybe I'd do it...but apparently it's gotten quite a cult following lately!

Well, I can do the best two out of three for the 3rd-8th gens...so if I ever do get around to taking this plunge, it'll be the first gen (4th) that I can do all three.
