Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  Hear ye, hear ye, come one, come all!  Gather all around as I, Sir-Bimms-A-Lot, tells you a tale of harrowing bravery and unconditional love.  Man, I love legendary tales and I cannot lie!  Our story, the famous Ghosts n’ Goblins, focuses on one of the greatest heroes of all time, the gallant Sir Arthur!  Okay, so maybe he isn’t that brave.  He let his girlfriend, the princess, get kidnapped by a Red Arremer and all he did was drop to the ground, curl up in a ball, and shake like a fraidy cat as the demon flew away with the princess loudly cursing her lover.  Now here’s where you can rewrite history!  Your job is to guide Sir Arthur across the seven stages of Hades to rescue his sexy damsel in distress from the clutches of the Devil himself.  To aid you in your quest are five different weapons, but alas, you will have to uncover them as you bravely fight your way through the levels.  But be careful, as there will be plenty o’ baddies to try to take you out and leave you six feet under!  Take one hit and you will lose your armor and be forced to embarrassingly face the forces of evil in your skivvies!  Aren’t they adorable with the little red hearts printed all over them?  Take one more hit while you’re rockin’ out in your whitey tighties and you’ll be reduced to a pile of bones and soon be standing before the pearly gates up in Heaven.  So, do you have what it takes to make Sir Arthur the stuff of legends?  Here’s what it takes to make him lose that lowly Sir title and turn him into the legendary King Arthur:

  • Play until Game Over
  • You must power up your NES before each of your run to reset the drop pattern correctly.
  • You may collect each 1-up only once.  In the second loop of the game, you will be allowed to collect each 1-up one time as well.
  • Looping stages 4 to 6 is forbidden
  • Highest score wins
  • Participation: 25,000
  • GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 4/24/16 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

-------------------------

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

"Wait...Bimmy and Jimmy??  How'd they make a mistake like this!?  Bimmy isn't even a real name!"

Beware the Bimmy Marsh!

I've always firmly believed that Halloween/horror themed games should always be played on Halloween week. It's gets me more motivated to play the game since I'm already in Halloween mode at that time anyway.

Oh, oops.  I made it somewhere in level 2 on my first try, before realizing this is high score, not progress

Not sure if 200k is going to happen for me this week, but I'll probably give it a few more tries.

Yeah I kind of figured...someone could just leave their game on and beat it in a day or two.

Well I meant progress on one credit

they somewhat go hand in hand you can sit and grind zombies out but your score will still be low.

You are still going to have to get very far on 1 credit.

Can you loop stage 4 to 6 till game over?
Also, only Ghosts n' Goblins allowed or can I run Makaimura instead?
I will take a shot at this most likely.

Looks like that was not allowed last time.  Perhaps he forgot to address it.

Actually it looks like he only remembered it last time after you asked so I guess this is a Bimmy Bea tradition

Could have been much better, but I screwed up at the ghosts at the end of stage 1, sadly.
Made through the first loop with a stupid death at stage 5. I will try again to do better.
It was a decent run.

Now we are getting there.
Did way too many mistakes when farming stage 1, round 2, even though I got there with 5 lives. The improved speed of the zombies make it tricky to spawn and kill the mages.
And I did a lot of dumb stuff at stage 2 and got a game over there.
Still, some slight improvement is always good. Might be able to reach 800K points and beat the game by the end of the week.

Basically, a failure.
Got to stage 1 run 2 with only one extra life and 325,000 points. Ended up dying at the boss of stage 2.
There is much to improve yet.

A bit better. Didn't get a perfect stage one like I did on the previous score, but managed to go farther in the game.
Still doing stupid mistakes when farming points. I will get this right by the end of the week.

Bit of a slow start. I am a bit rusty on score runs on this one.
Got a game over at stage 1 on this score, even. Shameful.
