Wondering if you guys could give me some more info on this cart. Was bidding on it on ebay, looking for some more info on it to verify if its legitimate.

The cart itself has residue from tape all over the front of it as well as a tag taped to the side. There is old warn sharpie marker across the label. I can only make out the centerline which says Dataeast, the other 2 lines are non legible due to wear.

The board itself is is a little funny looking larger than your average board. Board has no nintendo branding on it but does have a goldstar chip.

Plays on an unmodded NES.

Thanks in advance

Because Robocop (the movie) is fucking awesome? People wanted a game based on that regardless of where they were. Although it's not the best, Robocop is still a fun game to play.

Robocop was extremely popular as a movie and a game franchise (especially here in Europe). Pirating this one was a no-brainer for pirates all around the world. I personally have a pirated Famicom Robocop 2 cart

Nice to see our Scandinavian-American friend, Mr. Lundegaard, selling this one on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RoboCop-o...

To quote the auction:

"This is for an early Robocop cartridge for the original Nintendo NES from Data East, 1988. I'm not certain what it is exactly. The big board has a numbered yellow sticker on a raise circuit on one side. Plays great!

Title seems to have normal music and gameplay. What you see is exactly what you'll be receiving.

I always combine shipping on multiple items won.

Please message me with any concerns, cheers!"

But the title description says the following: "RoboCop oddball cart BIG BOARD demo development sample prototype nintendo nes"

Item is being sold from Pennsylvania, OP on this thread claims to be from Red Island, OP did you sell the cart to someone or what gives? Either way, had seen the auction and just wanted to mention it here.

Actually was bidding on the auction on Ebay and posted the info and pics here as that I did not have much experience with prototypes. I ended up winning the auction but asked the seller to cancel the order and informed him that this was not a protoype. This was his response.

I get where he is coming from and I should have done more research prior but putting PROTOTYPE in the title is misleading to say the least.

If he doesn't know anything about it, then he should not have listed it as a prototype and just say it is a Robocop game. Just looking at the shell itself and it looks like something homemade.
I do have a Robocop prototype and it has a regular sized board with 2 EPROMS.

Don't let this person make you feel bad. I am pretty sure they  are the same seller that sold the fake Escape From Atlantis prototype.

It seems pretty clear from the other thread that he would say anything to make a buck. If all else fails, pay then open a case saying that it doesn't work and return it. Don't let this guy keep your money.

Oh sorry, I must have overlooked that part and that you had the cart!  Thanks again for the clarification, and I should learn to read better.

Anyway, I still wanted to just post the link to let others know, since the whole thing seemed odd.

The Robocop game on microcomputers, consoles, and handhelds was almost Super Mario Bros 3-big in Europe. Like, the title theme was used to trigger nostalgia in appliance commercials and such.

It was huge.

It isn't just the title. Calling it "early" when it's a bootleg made after the original game is an incorrect description. If he knew it was a bootleg then he knowingly lied by calling it "early." Whoever wrote "Data East Demo" on the shell out-right lied to make us assume it was early or proto, and this description out-right stated "early" in the description. While I can't prove that the seller wrote that on the shell, it's still definitely not "early."

Well, of course, the shorter one is what usually aired:

I actually bought this thing knowing it was a bootleg, I just think its cool. Anyway what clued me in was the one of eproms on the board had a date code of 9022 meaning the 22nd week of 1990, two years after the game came out. Sure misleading but I think earlier bootlegs like this are pretty cool. I'm also holding out for the fact that early rom copiers were primative, so maybe some differences there.

I may just end up selling it in all reality for what I paid.
