Didn't play first one, but been playing the new one and I love it. A little simple but very addictive. I love how it wisely removed the tedium of certain things by giving you a crew. Although sometimes it feels the game is playing itself, I personally don't mind it.

Been opening up some of the explorer islands. Use the flute to find items on the checklists. Complete the checklists and you get infinite items xD

Did you put the chickens somewhere, build them a coup or something? I just let them roam and find eggs all over the place.

Just free roam here, at least for now.

I just finished the pyramid building and am over on the island where Moonbrooke is located. This game keeps getting better and better!

Loving this game but the prison island thing in between the pyramid building is such a chore.

It's not terribly long, but this is where I noticed things spiking in difficulty. Moonbrooke is tough since your base gets attacked quickly and monsters there are strong enough to do base damage.

The prison thing was fun, although I really wish my slime pal came back with me. Has anyone made friends with monsters for their island yet? I killed a bunch of stuff but none that wanted to be friends yet

Yep! Sabercat, sabercub I think, and a stone Golem.

They also come back to your island (found these on the non-story islands, fwiw)

Just finished Moonbrooke. Game is still going strong. I will say I'm really getting sick of all the dialog. Absolute worst part of this game. There's just so much that I have zero desire to read any of it at this point.

Yeah I can believe that. I took a break from the story to just build. I got the stone golem and he's so awesome to take out and smash stuff with.

You guys are a good deal ahead of me. I just finished up the silver bar, I expect the mine town should be wrapping up soon.

Just beat the main game. The story does seem to drag at times with so much dialogue but I enjoyed the game overall. Will definitely keep playing just to build up the Isle of Awakening.

I just got to Moonbrooke tonight. The jail island was tedious.

I hear ya. Couldn't get through the jail island fat enough. Fortunately Moonbrooke makes up for it. The rest of the game here on out is pretty satisfying.

So I am surprised none of you have mentioned the oddities of building toilets and people waiting in line to use it -- sounds hilarious.
(read an article last week that focused on that aspect of DQ2)

^The best is you get to dig the "night soil" out of the toilet after they use it and make stuff with it.

Yeah, the article claimed it was the most valuable commodity in the game, so it was critical to have a useful toilet arrangement.

It's definitely not the most valuable commodity lol

When I built my first toilet room, the entire town stood in line. That was pretty funny to see.

I just got to what I presume is the final island/land. I actually started paying attention to the story after my banner was built, and it's a nice interesting twist. That feeling lasted like 4 minutes, then I just blasted through the text.

While they greatly improved the mechanics and playability of the game, the ludicrous amounts of text (plus the "head voice" text you can't skip past and it lingers for 30+ seconds) almost ruins the experience. For that fact alone, DQ Builders 1 will be a much better experience and replayability than DQ Builders 2.

Yes! I couldn't stand the wait time on the "head voice" text.

I also have to say that the story makes me want to replay Dragon Quest II sometime soon. Though I likely won't with DQXI coming to switch soon.

Such a fun game series! I played the first one, and now I'm playing the 2nd one. The demo for the first game was bad. I almost didn't get it because of it. I ended up taking the chance and ended up loving it.

Beat it last night, absolutely loved this game. Its a perfect sequel, took out the annoying stuff from 1 and improved pretty much everything else. The story was fun, the characters amazing, just an all around treat to play. Im gonna keep playing until I beat all the objectives, close to 100 hours so far.

Not very spoilerish tip; when you find the pirate ship in Malhalla, check the pot in the brig. Theres a ridiculous sword in there. 96 attack power.
