I found a quarter the other day that was from 1959. All quarters dimes and half dollars up to 1965 were 90% silver. Im sure they dont come along to often as most were picked out in the 1980s when silver was up to almost 50.00 an ounce. How often do you guys see them in your change rolls.
The whole silver coin thing interested me so i bought a few  of  those silver franklin and kennedy half dollars on ebay. ill just stash them away and see what silver goes up to in a few years.

a 90% silver  half dollar is worth around 6.50 in silver weight alone
quarter is worth around 3.70

Almost never.

They weigh a different amount than post-1964 coins, so banks can sort them automatically VERY easily.

I used to collect coins... in 3 years working at a retail auto store and pretty much always keeping an eye out, I found ONE silver dime and no quarters. I did get a good hundred wheat pennies though.

I saw one silver quarter every couple of months counting a daily register at my restaurant. They make a nice sound when you bounce them on the counter!

all I can say is that you'd have better luck finding silver metal detecting then coin roll hunting... with that said. I've found 1 silver quarter in the wild that wasn't in the ground at a restaurant when I got my change. and I have found 2 silver dimes one in a roll of them and the other in my change

from metal detecting I've found around 20 silver coins in one denomination or another.

I find and keep TONS of wheat pennies since I work in retail. I found a silver quarter about 3 weeks ago, and had 2 silver dimes last week.

Hmm I never really checked for Silver Dimes or Quarters. I do occasionally get a Drummer Boy quarter or a Wheat Penny though.

They're really easy to spot, since the reverse on the dimes and half dollars is really distinctive.
Quarters may not be as obvious, but they're not the usual "sandwich" look.

In all cases, the easiest "tell" without reading the date is that they tend to wear down easily since silver is softer than the cupro-nickel alloy, and they'll tarnish a bit, as well.

Dimes are most common. But I do find the old WW2 silver nickels from time to time, too bad the silver percentage in those is like 45%. Silver quarters only a couple in my life. I think the quarters are easily the most spotted and searched for. Did find a peace dollar before though. That was sweet!

I've found two quarters in change, a dime, bunch of wheat pennies and last spring when I was tilling my garden I found a silver quater there. I guess I find things more frequent than others.

I work retail at a grocery store as a cashier and also in the store's cash office counting the cash drawers, so I find silver dimes and quarters from time to time. I find a silver quarter roughly every other month and silver dimes a couple times a month. In fact, I just found a silver quarter last week and a silver dime yesterday. I also have a really nice lloking Franklin half dollar from 1963 and a Kennedy half dollar from 1964.

They may be more common in Canada, but I come across silver Canadian quarters quite often... a few times a year at least, and I don't work with cash at all.

They stick out like a sore thumb to me in a pile of change since there's no "sandwich" like Nathan said (if viewed from the side, like from a roll) and from the face, they're obviously "whiter" than the greyish silver most modern coins are. I got a silver half while working as a teller last year, but only a couple dimes and one quarter in about 9 months. Of course most change went through the auto sorter though, and I always cried inside when a really old guy came in with a jug full of halves and dumped it in

I find lots of silver coins. Some of them are worth almost 10x their value.
My collection's fairly decent.  I've got a 1920something Walking Liberty Half, A Franklin 1950something half, plenty of steel pennies (I'd love a 43 copper one), a few Mercury dimes, and my favorite of them all, a 1893 Columbian Exposition Half

When I was working at a grocery store a few years back, some tweaker came in with a huge mason jar full of silver dimes and paid for his stuff with them. The cashier wanted to trade the dimes for money out of her pocket, but our asshole managers wouldn't let her for some reason.

Dimes, quarters, halves and dollars are 90% silver and all worth exactly the same multiple of their face value, since they contain silver in direct proportion to their face value.

She should have swapped them out, gotten fired, and gotten a new minimum wage job.  The payoff would have been worth it.

Silver quarters make a really distinct sound when they hit other change. Thats how I've noticed most of mine. I dont think I've ever found a silver dime though.

I don't think that thought even crossed her mind, but she was in her 60's and probably wouldn't have wanted to look for a new job if it had.

I'll find silver dimes every once in a while, but I'll just throw them into the change pile thinking I'll dig it out later.  I always forget though when I'm dumping everything in the bank change collector, so maybe I should put them in a separate pile from now on.

If anyone is a collector, I have quite a few from when I was younger.. including the 1932 set from all 3 mints along with some other collectables. And I dunno how many wheat pennies. I have no clue what to do with them other than put them away and make money

I would find either a quarter or dime maybe once every couple of years. They do find their way into your change either from some old timer cashing in a change jar, or a crackhead not realizing the real value of them.

I used to get a lot of these working at the comic shop and my game shop. Kids would raid their parents' coin collection behind their backs to get pocket change for Yugioh and Pokemon packs.
