All domains are available for these generic suggestions.

Power Up Pub (poweruppub.com)
Vintage Game Collectors (vintagegamecollectors.com)
Vintage Games Forum (vintagegamesforum.com)
All Things Gaming (atgforum.com)
All Games Network (AllGamesNetwork.com)

I'm not saying that they are great. They are generic, the domains are short and available and mostly get the point across. I also have no clue how you plan on expanding the site, but I suggest keeping general areas separate, but sub-domains, but all part of one integrated site for easy cross-region posts and searches.

Also, is this going to be something like NA where there's an extensive database of game data? Also, if you can setup a really good wiki for cataloging/storing photos of games, boards, manual, boxes, variants, hardware, whatever, that would be huge. In my casual observation, this stuff does exist but sites like that either focus on narrow information, or they are to a specific console/game studio. One wiki to rule them all would be unbelievable.

Also, since you're competing with GoCollect and a lot of us trade... you could create a good cataloging system and try to build out a similar GVN system, pulling data from eBay. Integrate a smart matching "for trade" system where people post want lists and for trade lists and you match up traders and you could have a real winner.

Oh, and make sure that any given thread can have more than 5,000 posts before it croaks.

Please don't use the word collecting/collector in the site name. I respect people who mainly collect, but it's by far the least appealing part of the site. I can't be alone in finding all these WATA threads annoying. But I respect it. It just kills a lot of the appeal if the main focus going forward is going to be on collecting, instead of playing.

I agree.  This is why I tried to leave it out of my suggestions.  There might be many collectors, but keep the idea that the site is "All Inclusive".  There are also many "gamers" on here who don't collect much for the sake of collecting.  It's about playing Nintender tapes.

I also agree. So there's that.

Also agree. I started out as a collector when I came here. But collecting is hardly what I do. I'm much more of a gamer than anything. If nothing else I just love talking about games.

BTW, why can't we use AGE in the name, like ConsoleAge? AFAIK the word age isn't unique to the NintendoAge sites. There's AtariAge and whatnot.

Uh, fresh start?
Eh, I don't think we have to completely abandon everything to do with the old forum. There might be value in having a bit of a connection. And as I said, NA doesn't have a monopoly on it.

But if age is out and we want a clean break, I like Lincoln's suggestion, Collectroid.

The connection would be the users that already make the community what it is.

I agree with the gaming vs collecting points above. I've already sold off a good portion of my stuff and enjoy the games I have far more. Collecting is generally in the past for me. Would be great to chat more about the games themselves.

I like that atgforum suggestion above by the way

The new forum will be about, in hopefully roughly equal measure:
  • Collecting (all forms of)
  • Playing (all types of)
  • and Making (homebrewing etc.)
... video games.

I was thinking more in regards to attracting new members. An -Age forum would suggest some connection to the old NintendoAge. At least I see it that way.

Aside from the members here, outsiders do NOT like NA. There doesn't need to be any connection to it, and would probably be a hinderance rather than helpful

It's not NA that they don't like, it's the memebers that they don't like and by the look of it some of those members are one who are looking to migrate to the new site

A forum should technically have the web extension .org so you should have almost everything available to you.
And why would you make a new forum? What's wrong with this one?

I chat here and I also chat around on Reddit because I use Reddit for other reasons. People around here have experience. People on Reddit are more casual-- I see the same questions again and again, verifying carts, asking how to clean stuff, questions about games and a bunch of "check out muh hallllll!", and a bunch of casual chat and game recommendations.

The point is, these types of casual gamer/collectors are different than the more hardcore collectors around here. If you guys want to build a new community with new blood, you have to welcome the casuals and the casuals post a bunch of "dumb" stuff. I hate to word it that way, but that's how it would be perceived. If you want a place like this to live and thrive, you've got to welcome people where they are... so you can build your person pretenses into them with time. (j/k) But, in all seriousness, the only complaints I hear about this place outside of here can be summed up with that this place is "pompous". I'm not saying they are right, but if we build another echoing chamber of the way things currently are, the community will not grow.

Unrelated, but once the place is up and running and the bugs have been worked out, I'm willing to contribute a few bucks for advertising, assuming you do want to advertise. I do hate Facebook, but considering all of those Facebook Groups people keep talking about, that sounds like a good place to cherry-pick gamers/collectors.

Think of it as a creaky wooden ship carrying nitroglycerine, and there are rocks ahead.

Also, gamerscommons.com is available. If you want to riff off a "forum" synonym.
