I've heard alot of stories claiming that the virtual boy could cause color blindness. Has anyone here spent like 2 hours on that thing and noticed any eye damage?

Nothing apart from genetics can cause colorblindness.

More likely, the cones that detect red can be overstimulated in much the same way that looking into the sun can leave an afterimage, if the brightness is up on the VB. The eyes are "wired" similarly to other nerves in the body, and being neural, as they are stimulated they fire with decreasing intensity. This "fatigue" or "jading" can manifest in much the same way that a person can become to repeated tickling, pain, heat or cold in a localized area over a short period of time. The cones that detect red/green will temporarily cease to function optimally, and will change your perception until they regain their "charge."

ive heard stories about stuff but I have been known to play completely through wario land (getting pretty quick at it though) with no problems at all, and played space invaders way longer than 2 hours

Stop trying to cause fights NESboy. If you have nothing nice to add then don't add anything. The last 3 threads I have heard have all had a negative feel to them.

Sorry to go off topic, but as this thread is about the Virtual Boy I figured I might ask. I have 2 Virtual Boy systems, but no games. I have tried powering them on without games, but no light comes up or no sounds are made. Is this what I should be expecting? I just need to know if they're in working order or not. Thanks!

I don't even have a virtual boy. Tell your freshman english teacher to teach you kids some reading comprehension.

Colour blindness is very rare. That would be the inability to detect any colour at all. It is not often found in individuals without some other disorder (e.g. some forms of mental retardation). What most people mean when they say colour blind is actually colour weakness, where the person has all three receptor types with some shifting, or where someone has only two of the receptor types (to anyone who was going to correct me I am aware receptor types is a poor choice of wording there).

Anyway, nothing much can "make you" colour blind. I suppose some form of brain damage might do it, but it'd have to be pretty specific damage. Also, I guess some kinds of poisoning or something might damage the receptors. It would be impossible for virtual boy eye strain to do it.

I'm colour weak by the way. I can't play the virtual boy, but that's because I don't have any depth perception (only one fully functional eye; although I'm lucky enough to have avoided getting a noticeable eye turn). If the Virtual Boy had taken off, I'd have been in big trouble as a gamer, as it's not a gaming style that'd work for me. The Sega 3D glasses also don't work for me.

Do the 3D glasses even work at all?

I've got the famicom 3D system and really all they do is just flicker which is supposed to make the gameplay 3D, lol.
