Hey Gents, and you few ladies,

I've been on a recent Metroid Kick, and have never played Metroid 2 on original Gameboy, but thought I would buy one and try and beat it!

Only thing is.... I don't want to play it in good old Monochrome!  I found that some nice hacker folk have converted a ROM of Metroid 2 into a Color version !!  (nice work guys!)

So now my question is, has anyone put this ROM on a cart?? do I need to buy the Gameboy Everdrive cart ?? or has some nice Repro people already made a cart I can buy??

any info?  thanks everyone!

Couldn't you just buy a SNES and a Super Game Boy? That results in a colored Metroid 2 as well...

Yup, Super Game Boy adds fancy colors to your Game Boy games - you can pick different color palettes and borders. And the best part is you can use your SNES controller

Yes, all Game Boy games get a color upgrade on the Super Game Boy. Regular GB games get 4 colors out of a small palette to replace the old 4 shades of gray.

There are also Super Game Boy compatible games which get a special border and even more onscreen colors. Metroid 2 might be SGB compatible, but I don't know, I never owned it.

Metroid 2 is one game that really, really could benefit from a graphical update. Metroid 2 came out before the Super Gameboy. For those games you can alter the colors just about anyway you want, but you only have 4 shades to actually display. I think that pretty much every pre-SGB compatible game looks pretty shitty no matter what you do with it. It's a pretty great game either way. Errone should try it.

Alter the palette if it doesn't jive with the game. you can put it to a few palettes preset or alter it color by color. You still only have 4 colors ever. Doesn't matter when it was designed either, the games all use the same tech. You're thinking weird because you're talking something that is just a placebo in the end.

Yeah. I've been drinking. 3Gen has it right though. It's really not gonna look better unless somebody has hours and hours to spare to make some kinda Super Metroid ultimate crazy perfect impossible hack. I say just play the game and love it. it's pretty easy to love it.

According to the all-knowing and infallible Wikipedia, Metroid II is not necessarily enhanced in any way by the Super Gameboy, but it does have a default color palette dedicated to the game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...

I guess none of you read the Super Game Boy guide. It's really nice.

http://cdn100.iofferphoto.com/img...

It lists many of the most popular GB games of the time and has walkthroughs for each game. At certain points, Nintendo gives recommendations on the color palette. It's a bit of a hassle, yes, but it's worth the effort.

And yes, the SGB Guide includes Metroid II.

I've been playing this game too recently!!! It looks terrific on the Gameboy Advance or Gameboy Player on Gamecube. The colors are really matched well by the system. Almost looks like the NES Metroid.  Super Gameboy coloring looks horrible.

I played it through first time with the GBC, and loved the color scheme. Samus is samus-colored and the background is a logical blue/black mix. Enemies are red. GBAs use the same colors. The SGB I didn't like so much because of the green background color instead of black. The GBP uses the same color palette as the GBC, which is nice. But my eyeballs are telling me it's stretched width-ways a bit too much.

Then change it, you can change all the colors the games use.

I tried playing with the color hacked metroid 2s and was never happy with any of them ultimately, wound up just replaying in black and white

That reminds me, I've read that the SGB only adds 10 or so colors to the actual game display IF it has been designed to be used with it. Despite coming out later, I assume it wouldn't be possible to make the DX games display the same way through the SGB as it does on a GBC, correct? The GBC uses 56 colors total, while the SNES is around 256, so it should be somewhat logical; you might need to reprogram the game for that, though.

How advanced is GB and SNES dev, anyway? And SGB development, for that matter?

SNES...256 colors? No...it has 32K colors. It should be able to use them all if they designed the thing right and ued one palette just for the gameplay screen.
