just for the record I did get skipped out of a day before I had brought all the buildings down, around day 55 I think. Same thing happened to me on a previous run on a different day.

The odd 7 came from skipping a stage with some buildings still up. I'm not sure if it is a glitch, but if it is so, we have no choice but accepting it cause it's just hard to not skip a stage like that here and there when you try to maximize your score.

Sounds like the right call.  I've had this happen to me a bunch of times already as well and it appears to be mostly random.  At the very least, I can't get it to happen consistently, because I play every level the same way and it only happens like every 5-10 stages or so.

Here's a description of the glitch, from revned's guide on GameFAQs.com, but I've had the glitch happen to me even when I do more than just eat people:

Score Weirdness - GrimReaperBostock informed me of this glitch. When you go
into a level, do not destroy any buildings. Just walk around
and eat people. After several minutes, your score will
randomly start increasing and the level will just end, even
though there are still buildings. You can even get numbers
other than 0 in the ones digit of your score.

That's actually the first I've heard of this. So does that mean if your score doesn't end in a 0, the glitch occurred at some point?

From the things that I've read, everything in the game gives you a points in multiples of 100. So any score that doesn't end in 00 has had the glitch occur.

The cart arrived via ebay just in time to for me to get my participation point this week. Unfortunately this will be the only chance I get this week as I'm off to Calgary for the expo tomorrow morning. Best of luck to everyone!

Yup, another telltale sign that the glitch occurred is if your level ends before every building is knocked over.  I noticed that the wierd numbers appear immediately after this happens.

As a fun side effect, if the glitch happens on the last level in a region, the map screen where your monster destroys a piece of the country is full of random sprites.

This is really interesting because I've been playing this game since I was a kid and didn't know it existed.  Seeing as how this shouldn't be a major problem and it hasn't happened consistently to those who have experienced it, the scoring glitch will no longer be forbidden since maximizing points in each stage will be critical to getting a really good score.

Oh wow, my glitch has been posted here...GrimReaperBostock was my old GameFAQs username from a point when I was locked out of my original account. I've since merged the accounts, but it looks like that FAQ still uses my old one XD

But yeah, I found that glitch while playing it in the mid '90s. Not sure what compelled me to do it, but yeah, I just ate people until I warped to the next level. Coolest thing that happened was the time I gave up after 10 minutes of nothing happening, so I blew up a building. My strategy was to start at the bottom, then climb to the top and jump off the roof when the building exploded. What ended up happening was that I never dismounted from the side of the building, I just kept climbing on until I went off the screen. I ended up crawling through the bottom of the screen and the level skipped when I got to street level. Pretty nuts! Most times though, the score just adds crazy numbers to itself. I think there's some things that give multiples of 50 points, so it's possible to get that without the glitch, but the glitch can make for some funky scores overall.

Anyway, I'd play this, except my camera finally up and broke. Not even a year old, but it's not covered by warranty and it would cost more to repair than to replace, so it appears I'm without a camera for a while. C'est la vie.

EDIT: Also, I don't think the glitch should be banned, but I will say that it would be dumb to use it, since your score will climb faster by just destroying things as quickly as possible instead of spending 5-10 minutes waiting for the glitch to trigger.  But yeah, I would say it should be allowed, but the amount of damage that will be sustained while trying to trigger it is not worth the small amount of points that get tacked on (if I remember correctly anyway...I don't remember it being a significant amount, but I could be mistaken).

Oh, I've had it consistantly.  You can do it on every level that I've tried it on (I've used it up to around the 5th week or so, although the result of the glitch differs every time).  I do agree that it shouldn't be banned though, it's just not very beneficial in the long term.

Anyhoo... I've been out of the loop here... I love Rampage (the arcade game, not this ), so I want to give it a shot (probably for participation considering Lincoln's score ). Maybe my adult self won't dislike it so much, but I'm never going to forgive them for not including Ralph...

You might want to take a video of this and submit it to Twin Galaxies.  The number one score there is 3,329,800. And that is using three lives, not one.

Ah yes, the original Wreck-It-Ralph.

I hate how these dumbed-down NES versions of arcade games leave things out.  DK pie level, Mario Bros icicles, 1942 decent sound effects, the list goes on.

There ARE some good arcade renditions out there (1943 and Bubble Bobble come to mind), but just saying.

Data East Leaving Ralph out of Rampage is almost as bad as Capcom leaving Guy out of the SNES version of Final Fight. Data East is also responsible for the awful NES port of Bad Dudes, so they actually managed to ruin the home versions of two of my favorite arcade games.

Yeah, it's pretty BAD (har har) when you screw up a port of your own game. I understand there are limitations to the system, but when I heard the garbled "We're bad!" come from the NES, my brother and I looked at each other and busted.

Tom: Yeah, it's pretty sad that so many "arcade" games were released that were lacking something. Even the cycling of the stages in DK and DK Jr... Did they think that kids would get bored if the stages were staggered? 1943 and Bubble Bobble are solid, though. I've never even seen the arcade version of Bubble Bobble.

There was a pizza place in town when I was a kid that had the arcade version of Bubble Bobble and I played it everytime I went there. The NES version was very well done. Here's some gameplay footage of the arcade version:

Lincoln if you could replicate and record your gameplay I'd be interested in seeing it. That's pretty impressive if you could break a three life record using only one.

This supposed glitch that someone posted on the gamefaqs forum is bogus.  In the NES version of Rampage, you will never have a tank, or any other vehicle for that matter, appear in a stage that has water.  If there's a way to make them appear, I've never heard of it.  Regardless though, if there's a way to do this, then it will be forbidden for this contest.

It actually is legit. I played a session last night just to try this out. It took until day 60 to get the combination of water and a tank. Punching the tank as it appears out of the water nets you 10 or 11k and change in points every punch. And of course after playing that long and trying to take full advantage of the glitch, I get skipped out of the level.

AFAIK vehicle appearances on a level are predetermined rather than random. And I think day 60 was where my high score run ended, so there's probably not much chance of anyone encountering this accidentally.

You might want to take a video of this and submit it to Twin Galaxies.  The number one score there is 3,329,800. And that is using three lives, not one.

Lincoln if you could replicate and record your gameplay I'd be interested in seeing it. That's pretty impressive if you could break a three life record using only one.

Hmm, may have to put that on my to do list when I have a few hours to spare. I'm not sure how long my run was but I left it on pause for a few hours to do some other things.

Bimmy, we were talking about another glitch, the first mentionned that we have not described in this thread should remain forbidden.

Here'S a description of that glitch: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/587557-rampage/63530268

That's cool that this works.  I'm finding out all kinds of glitches with this game this week lol.  We will make the tank glitch forbidden for the contest this week.
