After I noticed that I've started to rather actively PM'ming people with purchasing interests, I thought it would be polite to also say hi to all you guys collectively. With this I suppose I also finally need to admit myself; I've become a retro collector!
I joined the site around a month or so ago in hunt for some Pokémon distribution carts for DS. Even after I was able to obtain all I came here looking for, I stayed reading about people's experiences and sucking in the retro game collector mentality. I've been a gamer for around 20 years and the PS1 was the first console I prevented my parents from selling; NES, SNES and Genesis (well, Megadrive here) were unfortunately lost. Inspired by all the buzz and this whole new subculture of gaming I had discovered here at Nintendoage and several other sites I finally gave in and thought it's time to start rebuilding my retro library. Out of the three lost ones I feel Super Nintendo was/is the hands down dearest and even today 100% playable, so this is what I want to concentrate on. I also have no intention of building a complete collection - I can only afford the games I actually still want to play: the classics, and the ones I missed last time around. Concentrating on a total of perhaps 25+ interesting titles for now I can try to obtain everything in CIB to maintain a nice looking collection and even perhaps try obtaining some of the rare good ones (Megaman's X2 and X3 come to mind first). Also, this policy of mine means sealed games are out of question for which my wallet is very thankful for.
One small detail I feel worth mentioning is that unlike most of you guys here, I hail from a small northern European country of Finland which poses some challenges to this new hobby of mine, at least price wise. This time around I decided to ditch PAL for good and concentrate solely on NTSC. While this opened some interesting new options, I've also been surprised how difficult it seems to be sometimes to get people (especially on eBay) to ship even outside US, not to mention overseas. Shipping costs are a pain, and especially with CIB's in mind, it seems one big part of this hobby I'm gonna miss is hunting for good deals - the foreigners tend to have to pay premium. For several obvious reasons I am never going to walk into a garage sale full of bargain priced sealed SNES goodies, which is a shame. That said, if some of you fellow European NA'ers have any pro tips on where to find NTSC CIB SNES games on the old continent, I'm all ears!
Anyway, it's an exhilarating hobby and NA seems an awesome community so, happy to be here!
If anyone is LOOKING for certain repro/homebrews, I have a running repro company thread going as well as a lot of extras myself which include Limited Editions as well. I'm also free to help answer questions and point people in the right direction so never hesitate to ask! Here is the current list of repro companies. Please let me know if I need to update it:
