Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut.

I thought I had read everything by him, but then stumbled into this at a used bookstore and realized it didn't ring a bell. Glad I did, enjoying it almost as much as some of his other works.

I was on a Stephen King kick for a little bit. I'd never read him before but I decided to read The Running Man since it's my favorite Schwarzenegger movie. I'll say the book is in fact superior to the movie because it has a plot.

I've been kind of distracted lately and haven't been reading as much. I just kind of let my library loans expire. Maybe I should finally make the effort to hunt down Kingdom of Fear.

Have every Stephen King book and movie.  Pretty shocking ending in the book version of The Running Man with dude flying the plane into the skyscraper given it was so far before 911.  My first Stephen King read was The Long Walk... was hooked for life after that.

I'm currently reading one of the Chinese classic novels (sometimes called the Four Chinese Classics): The Dream of the Red Chamber/The Story of the Stone by Cao Xueqin. I'm really enjoying it, though I can honestly say that I'm not entirely sure why.

Additionally, I'm listening to Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini, and it is fantastic. I highly recommend it!

Coreyography and Snow Crash. And Catch 22. And the Hardcoregaming101 guide to Contra.  And that RA Salvatore Drizzt omnibus I started 12 years ago and will go back and finish some day.  And this Vonnegut book I have sitting in front of me.

I seem to have trouble starting multiple books and finishing them over a 1-2year period, even though I religiously stick with video games until they are finished.  It's a problem.

So far I enjoyed the Prisoner of Azkaban the best so I’m hoping Goblet of Fire is even better.  I’ve seen all the movies so I pretty much know what’s going on but it’s been a while so reading the books seems new to me with the story still.

Have you read Eden Express by his son?  My sister swears by it.

The fourth movie is easily the worst, in my opinion. Cut out huge chunks of the book (obviously had to be done), but it also really messed with story elements in ways that were completely unnecessary. I’m hoping you don’t actually remember much of the movie so what you do remember doesn’t ruin anything for you.

The Long Walk was the story to get me into King as well back in the late 80s. This and Rage (Getting It On) were my favorites in middle school. My dad supplied me with very questionable reading material.

Currently reading Monster..the book about Monster Kody. As a suburban white kid from a good neighborhood I'm fascinated by 80s L.A. gang life.

Not reading anything at the moment, but most recently I re-read the Knightfall/Knightquest/Knightsend saga in DC comics. I still have all of the issues from back when I collected comics, but this time around I picked up the Omnibus versions so I could have everything together in nice hardbound format with the proper reading order. It had been many years since reading that story, but I still enjoy it today. Still one of my favorite story arcs in comics to this day.

I was reading through this thread last night, and I was shocked when I saw you post.  I wanted to respond then and there, but it was getting late and I decided to head to bed.

The thing is, I am also reading through this same story.  I took a picture of the version I am reading.

The story is quite notorious I've heard, due to characters having similar names and what not.  Even a mainlander I know, who lives in the same city as OptOut, responded to me with an "OMG" when told him I was reading this book.  He said that it's a nightmare to read in Chinese, even to a native speaker.

I'm enjoying the read through as well, I'm about 1/3rd of the way through.  I rarely read on the weekends, but I usually have about an hour a day of free time at my job, as well as trying to read a chapter before bed every night, through the week.

Another thing, I was really surprised by how sexual the book is, I guess maybe it's the equivalent of reading a modern romance novel?

Anyways, glad to see someone else here reading this, I'd love to chat more with you at some point, especially if you've read some other Chinese classic literature in the past.  Seems like we could get along quite well.
