I... did not know there was a charge attack.  Interesting.

Does anyone know what the % at level's end refers to?  I failed to get it on two levels, and got a bonus of 5000 instead of 50,000.  Is that the enemies killed factor we're talking about?  Or something related to the boss?

Yep. Larger enemies that would otherwise take a bunch of hits can be destroyed much more quickly by charging your weapon. I wish I'd known about this before.

Using @richardhead 's equipment while he's out of town for 2 weeks. Home invasion style! Wonder what other mischief there is to be had?!

I think that it has something to do with the enemies during the boss battle, but I'm not completely sure.

So I finally reached the fourth stage and my bonus for beating the third stage was disappointing.

The third stage is the first one where you have to keep getting the weapon upgrade to have much of a chance. You want to reach the boss with spread (and a lot left over on the special weapon timer) because it can defend against the boss's projectiles.

I'm actually enjoying this game, so I'll be putting in more runs this week. I play lots of shoot 'em ups, so hopefully I can improve this score.

I absolutely hate games with countdown energy timers and games that penalize you for using your special moves and this has both. Ugh. What a waste. This game could be so much more fun. At least they improved the music substantially, which is a monumental understatement.

Apparently you only get the 50k bonus if you hit 100%. I shot down the plane boss at the end of stage 3 and only ended up with 94% (I think) and something like a 10k bonus.

I scored a meager 224,300 last night. I'll withhold my picture on the chance that I get to play this again later in the week. The game's a lot of fun though! I wish I had played it more before this week.

I feel the same way.  I wasn't too wowed by 1942 so I really didn't give this game an honest shot.  It really is a solid game and the music is awesome.  Definitely a capcom title!

I managed to break 900k on what will probably be my last shot this week. That's a personal best for me, so I can't complain too much if I don't have time to get another attempt in.

I'm hoping mine holds up as a top 8 score even though it doesn't count towards the leaderboard. I was really hoping to do well this week since shoot 'em ups are one of my weaker genres.

The end of level percentage is about the boss.  It's supposedly about how much of the boss you destroyed, though the mechanics vary depending on the type of enemy.

Boats are pretty straightforward.  To get 100%, just knock out all of the cannons and/or airplane launchers.

Giant Planes are weird.  Since there are no components to shoot at, the game instead calcuates your "percentage" based on how fast you destroy them.  100% is really hard to get, especially on Mission 3.  Later planes are easier to 100%, once your plane is powered up more.

Finally there are the Bombers (ex: Mission 6).  Here, there are just a bunch of medium-large planes to shoot down.  Get them all for the 100%, but it's tough because the game ends the level a little too soon, stopping you from getting the last one.  You must be quick!

Hope this all helps.  Good luck, everyone!

Thanks for clearing that up! I shot down the plane at the end of Mission 3 and only ended up with something like a 68% which seemed a bit odd since I did shoot it down and clear the level.

Ok thanks.  3 and 6 are the missions I've failed to get 100% on so that makes sense

I seriously wonder how many people are shaking their fists in frustration at their computer screen after reading my score update post and thinking "Doug just posted a 900k score on a Tuesday and still complains that he's "not that good" at shooters".

I'd never played 1943 before yesterday, so you're not hurting my feelings. The immediate stages after 3 are much easier, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot higher scores from the field as a whole as the week goes on.

I had never played it either and got 600K+ on my 5th or 6th try

At this point I'm basically assuming I need to break 1,000,000 to place
