The manufacturer said he had a run of 10000 made on GameFAQ. Other projects to make remake cases were around the $10/case mark, so seeing these for $4 shipped out of nowhere is pretty surprising. If you don't want them, now you know to look out for them

I wonder if there's a way to tell apart the fakes from legit cases. I doubt they put "reproduction" on it anywhere

I remember LRG said their remake longbox cases wouldn't have the CD logo on the tray because someone had the rights to that. Looks like these cases don't care about such details based on the picture. In any case, I imagine most games just need the cover and not the entire case and tray.

I welcome this development. I'd much rather see people getting reproduction jewel cases than stealing jewel cases from less desireable games. Because those less desired games will likely be more prone to getting damage when they are stripped of the jewel case.

Anyhow, the jewel case doesn't really need to be original. It has no artistic value. I do agree that cd's, manuals, brochures etc should ALWAYS be original.

Even if you insist that jewel cases should be original, technically speaking, a donor jewel case stolen from another game isn't original. If you study the little numbers that are printed on the plastic, you'll find that different games have different little numbers printed on the jewel cases. So if you REALLY want to keep everything exactly original, you'll want to make sure to steal a donor jewel case from a game that has the same little numbers printed on the jewel case... it really silly though, just go for the replacements and stop worrying.

I've got a stash of minty OEM cases tucked away for the future if I ever got back into collecting for Sega CD but that will likely never happen as I've been out of interest for 5+ years. Perhaps I'll eBay them before everyone finds out about these and mine become worthless. I personally would be OK with using aftermarket cases provided they're not noticeably different.

No reason for these to be labeled as reproduction any more than a replacement jewel case for a CD based game like the normal PS1 or Dreamcast games.

I'm glad these are finally a reality. I'm just not sure that I will invest in them myself. I switched my Saturn and Sega CD games over to DVD a long time ago, and at this point, I don't think I'm going to change back.

I wish the best for the seller and congratulate him on making these a reality.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

The holes that hold the front piece are different between SCD, PS1 and Saturn... (Trays are the same, but not the hindges) not sure what the repros are based off of.
