When I got my NES/SNES/N64 games from Collector's Cards & Games, I made sure the owner put fresh batteries in all games that take them. Hopefully they'll last just as long if not longer than the original batteries, right?

Luckily, with his modification if the battery dies earlier then expected you can buy a CR2032 and just pop it in without the normal hassle associated with battery replacement.

correct, which is the whole point of the service in the long run.

as long as he installed them properly and they were new brand new batteries they should last the same as any other. Ive seen as low as 5 years and as much as original NES games like Zelda that still save to this day which is 23 yrs? Its easy to tell if he really replaced them by opening it up and looking at the solder pads.

I've seen guides that have you tape the battery holder on the side of the cart. That looks dumb in my opinion, so thumbs up for attempting to make things look aesthetically pleasing.

If I come across a battery holder that is small enough for game boy games, I'll let you know. I've been testing some things out ... but with no success.

^^ fixed ;-).  These holders I use really are frickin awesome.  The legs are perfectly spaced, the holder sits 100% flush with the board, and when you close the cart there is zero obstruction, period.  They are the best for NES/SNES/Genesis, hands down.

forgive the extra bump but funny story. My buddy just called me and bought a Super Metroid from an Exchange a few cities over and the battery was dead. He took it back and the guy said he might know someone who could fix it. My buddy replied that he knew someone too (me obviously). The clerk said the guy he knew was on Nintendoage! Small world. I just think its cool that someone so close yet several cities over had seen my service and was offering it to a customer lol. My buddy returned Super Metorid for some other stuff then was mad when I told him I should just fixed it since Super Metroid is somewhat uncommon/pricey. So employee of The Exchange in Solon, Ohio, if your out there and read this I say thank you. -James-
