Could HAVE. Not "of". Please, I beg of you.

Otherwise, great read. Every time I see a list like this I say to myself, "jeez, hasn't this been done to death already?" No, it hasn't. A+

I oddly poured hours into this game when I was younger. None of my friends or family played it, but I was obsessed. I'd be sad if it was above, say, the 300-400 mark.

Definitely going to give this a read when I can. I'm curious where Spider-Man and X-Men Arcades Revenge ends up. Played that a lot as a kid, not terrible but not good either

I love this thread/project, especially since it's SNES based because personally I just have a hard time really wanting to play anything outside of the cream of the crop or "gem" titles. This is a way to take some of the guesswork out of whats good and what isn't. I'm excited to see where some (IMO) slightly-above-mediocre games like Timeslip or Family Dog rank. You rule Brock!

This is awesome! I look forward to the rest of the list. I wanted to do this for N64 games actually. I don't know if I can justify playing all those sports titles though.

I already had to correct about 5 instances of that, guess one slipped through anyways

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone.  The next entry has already been long in-progress, but since it's 50 entries as opposed to 14 I still have a significant amount of writing to finish, and some games to finalize.

I'm very happy to see you doing this. I started a project a year or two ago, doing the same thing with Game Boy games. I put it on ice because it's such a huge undertaking. And here you're doing it, with ~200 more games in the library, and each game is way bigger than a GB game. I'm very impressed. There are so many bad games.

Man I'm stoked to read more, I feel the snes library is so untapped in terms of poor quality games where the nes games get blasted at every chance.

Fixed some typos and added some more thoughts to Last Action Hero that I forgot to include before.

Volume II is probably about 50% done at this point. I aim to have posted sometime in November.

Bravo!

I'd argue about Lord of the Rings, you didn't need a multitap unless you wanted to have more than 2 people playing. Yes, Pippin is controlled by port 4, but Sam, who you get in the same opening town, is controlled by player 2... until you get to Bree and Aragorn becomes 1P and Frodo 2P.

Then again, it is a buggy mess of fetch-quests.

First chance to comment on this. Awesome job/project Brock! I remember you sharing this with me on Reddit last year. It's nice to see it in motion publicly now. I have been working on my own top SNES list (either 150 or 200) but it's nothing to the length you are doing. I look forward to reading these volumes in the coming months. I got a few weird guilty pleasures myself that I am curious where you would rank.

PS- how long have you been working on this project so far?

I started putting together a spreadsheet back nearly.... 6 years ago?  Actively trying to experience every game?  I guess since the 90s when I had every rom and went through the whole library alphabetically.  I didn't start writing until June this year though

I'd say anyone who actually punished themselves to completion with not just the SNES but also Gameboy version of Hard Drivin' deserves the honor of starting lists like these from the bottom up. I guess I'm not surprised how many sports turds sit at the bottom and no shock that ballz is balls alright. I can't say I entirely agree about Ultraman as I own that one and yes it is very stiff, and it's not the prettiest fighter on the system either if you really can call it that. It's more of a godzilla wannabe rubber monster battle with its own set of moves based upon a very old Japanese TV franchise that got a small time US release on the weekends bcak when that came out. It's not unplayable by any means, just stiff. Ultraman was like Godzilla if Godzilla made you use the hand waving motion blaster to disintegrate the rubber monster suit it was up against which is why battles end that way. You can drive the monster well under the Finish bar, but if you just hit it that one time before doing the blast you will fail. I think the line up in that game was mirroring not a movie set or greatest hits but just the beasts from that version of the characters show on TV at the time. Ultraman Towards the Future was the full US name of the program as it was translated for TV and the production values were in line with the usual mid-90s Godzilla movies of the time which really wasn't bad. The game is a solid C/C- by any means as it's very average in what it wants to do, but I've played quite a few crappier games but Ultraman in it's averageness, if you aren't aware of the source material probably would come off worse. This was in the US the first one on one fighting game we got up until Street Fighter II I think.

I like barkley shut up and jam. I played it on genesis as a kid. "give me the damn ball"

lol and stonewall was the character for elite rim protection

Alot of sports on the list so far. Glad to not see NCAA Football on there yet. That one is my favorite. I still play that game every thanksgiving with cousins. Its our go to sports competition game. Decades of history at this point haha.

Minor update and revisions to one of the entries; College Football USA 97 has further cemented its status as the WOAT
