Hello everyone and welcome to the final game of the 2017 Weekly Contests!  It's hard to believe the season is over the tournament is just around the corner.  We have seen some awesome competition over the last 8 months and things are sure to heat up as people compete for final tournament spots.  The final game of the 2017 season is going to be Trog and it's DY-NO-MITE!!!!  And we have a very special guest this week who wants to say a few words.  I'm going to turn things over to him now.  (The following has been translated into English for those of you who cannot speak dinosaur): RAWR!  I am the mighty Bimmysaurus Rex and I have a mighty big problem right now: mankind!  Ever since these one-eyed cavemen learned to walk upright, they think they're the superior species.  Now all they want to do is bonk us on the head and turn us into pizza!  Can you believe that!  Pizza!?  What do they think they are, Ninja Turtles??  And that's not all.  They've also learned how to create fire, which has me burning up inside with anger.  They've also invented the wheel and are currently trying to turn us into dino pancakes!  The dinosaur race must not stand for this!  Let's show them the dinosaurs are the superior species!  And once we have defeated those pesky cavemen and taken over the world, we will create museums and display all their bones and mock them for their goofy appearances!  Then, many years later, we will learn how to create human DNA from fossilized mosquitos and construct theme parks around the world where dinosaurs can see actual humans!  We just have to make sure that the power grid doesn't get knocked out by a storm.  Could you imagine what would happen if those cavemen got loose?  Haha, I'm getting ahead of myself here.  This is what you need to do to make sure the dinosaurs remain the superior species (I mean, there's no way we could ever go extinct, right?):

  • 1 player only
  • Start on Island 1
  • Get as far in the game as possible
  • You may not use any of the warps in the game.  Anyone suspected of using warps will have their score disqualified.  You must play through the game naturally.
  • Play until you have no extra lives remaining (no blue dots remaining under your score).  At this point, you must stop playing and take your picture.  You may not play any of the game on your last life.  Anyone suspected of doing so will have their score disallowed.
  • If you beat the game (complete stage 50), take your picture after the game tallies up your bonus points (be quick as it doesn't stay up for long)
  • Furthest progression wins with lowest score taking precedence
  • Participation: Get to Stage 6
  • GENRE: Arcade

The contest ends Sunday, 10/8/17 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

This game has its cheap deaths. Trying to punch enemies doesn't always work and you'll get eaten anyway. Enemies sometimes appear right in front of you after using a teleport. And being being able to walk off the sides is a major pain. It's still way easier than Pac-Man.

It also beats Kickle Cubicle in terms of ridiculously high scoring NES games.

The scoring for this will actually require that you die until you have only one life left since we're going for low score, and the game gives a really high amount of points for lives remaining (and continues).

That's when you beat the game, right? I'll be amazed if I get that far.

I'm mostly just playing for progress this week. I like the extra lives that I get from points.

Yeah when you beat the game you go literally from a few million to 65m+, typically. I forget the exact scoring, but if you look at the scoreboard here on NA, you can see the difference between beating the game and not. The jump is insane, and honestly basically makes the rest of the points in the game moot. You could of course farm pineapples all day long and get a ton more points, but it's slow going.

High score without farming comes from beating every level without dying at all. It's harder to do that than a low score contest to be honest. Low score will be more luck based.

That's a good question. I haven't been using them. I've been playing until life 0 of my first continue. But it is a game where your score is retained after you continue.

Nope, no continues will be allowed.

Thanks Richie! I wanted to do more stories, but it was hard to try to come up with stuff for some of them, so that's why a lot had generic intros. Plus, I didn't have as much spare time to do intros this year like last year. Perhaps in 2018 I will try to write more.

Hmm. I think after what happened, I will go full cybernetic organism, living tissue over metal endoskeleton at this game.

I don't really like this. Clu Clu Land and Spy Hunter were more my arcade bag, for whatever reason

Haha. I laughed really hard at this.

Good job getting that far, Richard. I keep succumbing to cheap deaths. This game is full of cheap deaths. I've been trying to rack up as many lives as I can to make progress and even that hasn't worked.
