Just realized you now hold the mark for most games cleared in a year across all systems. I'm at 152 and crabmaster did 120-something in 2012

I think I am at 170 something games beaten between NES/SNES/Genesis, considering games I couldn't claim as beaten on the threads, but were beaten on the contest threads. Which makes for almost one game beaten every two days.
There is also PC where I have beaten some 8 games this year, and the Master System with another 4 too.

Not too shabby, I'd say.

I'm honestly at work just staring at terminal screens watching data go by... I got nothing better to do, ha.

Noooo! That will screw the perfect number balance I aimed for the final tally of 2016 on this thread!
Good luck with beating it tonight, though.

I will probably have to get the 2017 thread up before I leave the office so just know that a few of the values will change after the fact if arnpoly does it (it will be like 2 games total shifting 1 number, including Equinox, so not a huge deal)

Actually I should probably get started on it now with my afternoon schedule looking like it is

A little ahead of schedule is fine, right?

Finishing this game for me has been about 20 years in the making so this was just as much for me as it was for the thread!

Nice, I rented it myself as a kid. Still need to finish it some day.

This was either my 3rd or 4th time trying to play through it. First time it held my interest the whole way! :-)

So some year end thoughts
  • We shattered the previous record, obviously
  • We beat 417 games this year.  444 unique titles had been completed in the previous 4 years combined
  • 3 of the top 4 all-time individual performances came this year
  • Bea could topple me on the leaderboard next year if she felt like it.  She's that good.
  • We've pulled ahead of Sega-16.  That could change if Bea registers over there.
  • It's feasible we get 90-95% of the library down by next year's end.  100% is a distant possibility.
  • Can we beat 417?  Can it ever be beaten?  Depends on who steps up, or if some new blood appears.

It is unlikely that I will be joining Sega-16 soon. Still not very comfortable with what I am seeing there, specially since I am yet to spot another lady among the crowd.
And noooo! The pretty, divisible by 8 number is gone. T_T

As for 2017, I will explore sucky games that I never tried to beat before on the SNES. I won't be contributing much to the NES thread next year, since we did it twice in a row, so they don't need me there.
Instead I think I will try to beat 365 unique SNES games next year, one per day. The worst the game is, the better.

I will be thankful in your absence in the NES thread. And I think beating 417 will happen next year. When I can spread out my time with games I won't tap out easily. It was just a matter of me picking the right ones with little time left this year.

Well I'm eyeing only about 20 titles I haven't beat or are personal favorites, most of which are very popular. So there is going to be a large void to fill

Do you mean on SNES or NES? Either way, we've got this.

Hopefully, my terrible videogame skills will allow me to fill this gap here, since I won't be putting much effort on the NES, nor on the contest this year.
Too much trash talking in the contest, so unless we get games I absolute adore in the line up (LEGEND OF KAGE!!!), you won't be seeing my poor skills there.

With that thread beaten again and again, I don't see much point in revisiting most of the games I have beaten there, save for a few personal favourites. I had to beat a lot of crappy games this year, you see.
And with PAL games gone, you all also don't need me there.
