I need to preface this by saying that this game has some very foul language. If you are sensitive to bad words, please stop reading. NSFW and so on. Now that we’ve covered the disclaimer…
I am proud to announce that my first homebrew production is nearly complete. A lot of really awesome people have stepped up to make this happen. As simple and silly as the game is, I was fortunate to have the best of the best helping me out. The game was programmed entirely by our very own KHAN Games and the music (which will sound familiar but for legal reasons I cannot confirm or deny that it is the song that you think it is) was made by the one and only Zi!
RIG (or Random Insult Generator) is very much a “back to basics” homebrew. An idea straight out of the early days of the homebrew scene, when men were men and the TSA wasn’t finger banging everybody with a beard. A simple idea executed in a simple manner just for the hell of it. The inspiration for this game is absolute blind rage insults that sometimes make no sense at all but are always pretty damn funny. You stub your toe and yell “Corpse fucking cunt boxer!” Or perhaps you just remembered that you left your child in a cab 2 days ago in a bad part of Detroit, which might warrant a “Mouse humping shit gargler!”
The mechanics of the game are pretty self explanatory but there are a few things I should point out. Each of the 3 boxes has a dedicated word bank with 29 different words or phrases. When you hit A, box 1 will pick a word or phrase at random from the bank and display it. Once you do this 3 times, you will have a full randomly generated insult. I’m no math wiz, but that’s roughly a fuck ton of possible insult combinations! Once the insult is generated, you get to play a game of 360 Breakout where you can decimate the insult on the screen while keeping track of your high score. The ball speed increases every 10 hits.
I think that’s pretty much everything that needs to be said about the game itself. Here is a FAQ to cover any questions you might have.
Q: Will it be available for sale?
A: Sort of! We are going to make 30 of them, 25 of which will be available to the general public (5 copies will be marked “DEV” and given to the people who helped make the game). This will be the only release of this version of the game ever. There is a chance that way down the road if people actually seem interested in owning a copy that we will remake the game from the ground up. The 25 copies available to the general public will be called “Only Edition’s” or “OE’s”.
Q: You aren’t going to harm any defenseless NES carts in the process of making the Only Edition’s, are you?
A: Of course not! The game will be made using 100% brand new parts.
Q: What are you going to do with your new found fortune?
A: Well my first thought is to buy a private island where there are no laws, and then invite strangers over for murder mystery dinners where people actually get murdered. If for some reason the game doesn’t bring in the funds necessary to make this happen, the profits will be split up like so:
8% will go to NintendoAge
15% will go to a charity which was chosen by the programmer
27% will go toward the next project
50% will go toward paying the people who worked on the game. Everybody did it on the spec (thanks guys!)
