Hello again.  Some of you may recall a little more than a year ago, I listed my NWC Cartridge. #1 Controller, and related materials on ebay, which I ended up not selling after a change of heart.  There was overwhelming interest in the NWC Controller, as apparently it was uber-rare and it hadn't been seen in anyone's collection until now.  I received a lot of offers for the controller alone but I wanted to sell the whole thing as a package so I kept it as well. However, now since i want to keep my cartridge till at least 2015 for the 25th anniversary - I am reconsidering, and will be taking offers for the controller.

To give a background of the controller:  At the 1990 Nintendo World Championships, players played on special competition game stations.  On the tour, some of these stations had special NWC control pads.  These controllers were like a normal NES pad, except the face featured a design with the Nintendo World Championships logo, and a large number in the upper right corner: 1, or 2.  Presumably this was done so that the tour crew would be able to easily tell which controller the player would use (#1) and which one the crew could use to start the game on a game station (#2).  As the tour progressed, these controllers became increasingly rare as pads broke down after public use and normal ones replaced them on the game stations.

By the time the tour hit my state of Califormia, only a handful of stations still had the special controllers.  Personally I remember trying to get onto the stations with the special ones since I thought they looked cool and it felt more special  .  So, I had an idea.  The tour was packing up, and since I had become the city champion, the staff was pretty cool with me... So asked one of the crew about the controllers, and begged for one - I was about ready to do anything to get one.  I was glad I did, and was given the ultimately rare item seen here, and it happened to be in really nice condition (unlike most of the ones used on the tour)  It was the coolest thing ever to have, especially after Nintendo sent me my NWC cartridge, I could re-live the NWC experience by playing the actual competition game with the controller it was meant to be played with.

I did my best to collect the emails and PMs I received about this from over a year ago, but to be honest, I couldn't find them all.  It seems NA has eaten a lot of my messages and I've lost all my outbox completely  :/  So, if you sent me an offer before, PLEASE let me know again.  To give you an idea of a start basis for offers, the high one from a year ago was $1000.

Its hard to say what it is worth.  Is it just a controller?  Or should it be even higher because of the ridiculous rarity, condition, and ties to NWC?  I've been told it should be valued higher than a gold cart since its apparently rarer, and an item that receives physical abuse by its very nature that is still in good condition.  To me, it is a prized possession that I hate to part with, that I have precious memories associated with - but the bottom line is that I could use the money now to better my future.  And ultimately it will become worth whatever people - you guys - are willing to pay for it.  I'll be taking offers here and from past interested parties until Wednesday before deciding to go with one, or if I should list it on ebay.  If you give me an offer I can't refuse - more power to you!   Thank you very much for reading, pictures of the item (and a video) are below!

Feel free to PM me here or email me directly at: vicviper573(at)aol.com  (replace the (at) with "@")

I highly doubt it would go higher then a gold cart, but you never know, it certainly is a VERY awesome piece of the history, even more so because you lived in the times of this contest! I wish you the best of luck, and congratulations on getting such a nice piece back in the day.

Thank you    Yeah, I doubt it will go for that much too - I don't even think gold carts should be that expensive in the first place.  But it would be nice because I sure could use the money   To me, I've already got that kind of value from it by being able to play authentic NWC at home.  Hopefully its future owner will be able to have that kind of excitement too!

That's a very awesome item. Best of luck with the sale/offers. I'd hate to see it end up on eBay, but the choice is yours.

It works perfectly, and is one of the best controllers I've ever used. I scored pretty decent on it on the NWC cart in the youtube link above (I filmed it so you can see my hands to prove its functionality)

Ryder - Yeah, I'd hate for it to end up on ebay too, I don't want to give them any more money, . But unfortunately I've had a lot of things go for good prices on there so I'll have to resort to it unless I get a good offer here.

Robin - I might entertain a payment plan but it depends on the total amount proposed and the schedule of installments and how that competes with other's offers of course.

skylersz, I actually sent you an email prior to posting here, I'm not sure if you got it..? I wasn't able to sell it separately before since it was on ebay and I couldn't/didn't want to split it up... But I remembered you! My correspondence from that time is really a big mess between email and my lost PM's here. Really sorry about any missed replies, too, I'm usually pretty good about that. Thanks for the offer, we'll see what happens between now and Thursday... With Robin's stuff sounds like a great home to me

I thought limbofunk or someone bought one of those controllers for $300ish a while ago. I have seen that on these forums before.

If he did, it was almost certain that it was a number 2 controller, which have been spotted from time to time. This one is the only number 1 that we have seen afaik. Might be one of a kind.

A few months ago I would have offered a pretty penny for this. Good luck.

Just a quick update for those of you interested, as I've had several requests for one. There's been some offers made and the top one is "$1000, shipped" with a couple in the $700 realm. I have yet to hear from some of my initial outgoing emails so I may extend the off-ebay negotiations a few more days.

I haven't done dealing like this since the usenet days (thanks to ebay ) but to be honest I kind of miss it, it is much more personal. A big thanks to those who wished me luck, making offers, or just have an interest in this. Back when I got this as a kid I thought I'd be the only one who cared about its significance! Anyway, I will be awaiting any rebuttals and will try to keep on top of messages as best I can!

Just to clarify -- when you say the top offer is "$1000, shipped" are you referring to an offer now from NA, or the offer from a year ago?

Hello!  I want your "ATLUS" stuff!  Please see my list or send me a PM if you have cool ATLUS stuff!

I had emailed those who had been interested in the controller separately informing them that I would be taking offers. These are people from both here on NA and ebay members. The same party who made the $1000 offer before replied to me yesterday and made 1000 shipped their current offer. I apologize, I should have been more clear about that - all offers from this point are current.
