#133: Toxic Crusaders signed!

I had the pleasure of meeting Lloyd Kaufman, the founder of Troma films which is best known for the Toxic Avenger.  He was kind enough to sign my copy of the Toxic Crusaders NES game, even though I don't think he knew the game even existed.  What a fantastic guy!  TromOtto-------get it?!

#134: 1992 Nintendo Binder from the UK

My goodness, I haven't updated this in forever!  This binder is one of the few items I have from Europe.  It was made in 1992 and is officially licensed.  It's a bit oddball and the binder part inside is only for 2-punched items, but the art on the front is great!

#135: DSi Development Unit

I have been hooked on the DS lately, so I figured I would try and collect some oddball items for it.  This was listed as a broken unit on ebay, and I managed to snag it for $80...sadly I was more interested in the box than the system itself!  When it arrived in the mail, I took it out and examined it--it appeared to be in nice condition, but the seller had stated the unit wouldn't power on.  There was an AC adapter that came with the system, so I plugged the system in just to see what would happen.  As soon as I plugged it in, the charging light flickered on for a brief moment then went right back off.  I immediately assumed that the fuse had blown in the system as I had seen that problem before, but I had this odd nagging feeling in the back of my mind.  I took out a regular DSi I had lying around and decided to plug it into the same charger that came with the dev system...the charge light flickered on for just a moment then went right back off.  'Hmmm!' I though to myself....'Could it be?!'  I pulled out another DSi charger I had lying around, plugged the dev system in and..................the charge light came on and stayed lit!  After waiting for about 3 minutes or so, I hit the power button and to my excitement the system turned on and worked!  I was semi-regretting spending $80 on a broken system and a funky box, but am super excited now!  I haven't been searching long, but this is the first time I have ever seen a dev system for the DSi.  I'm wondering if many were purchased as there aren't too many games that were made specifically for the DSi.

Thanks,  I haven't had a whole lot of time to mess with it yet, but it has two files on the main menu that I've never seen before:  TwlNmenu and NandFiler.  Everything else, camera included, appear to function just like a regular DSi.

#136:  DSi Dev Cart Sims 3 Proto

I arbitrarily found this for sale a day or two after winning the DSi Dev System above.  I had never seen one before and thought it would be really neat to have coupled with the system.  The price was reasonable and it was sold as being blank, but when I popped it into the DSi dev, to my surprise Sims 3 came up on the screen!  I don't have a retail copy of the game, but can already tell there are some differences looking at a youtube video of the game.  At the title screen, all the panning back shots are titled in the top right corner such as 'Grave Yard' 'Mystery Shot' and 'Rich flyby'.  One of the Graveyard pans in particular is very glitchy and magically a lake appears and the tiling on all of the trees in the background distorts.  I'll have to grab a retail copy and check it out more in depth when I have the time.  Another odd note, while I haven't tried it out on other systems it doesn't appear to work on a regular DSi.  It's a good thing I wound up with the Dev system!

#137: DS Nitro Dev Kit

I haven't had a chance to check any of this out yet, but it looks pretty darn cool!  Hopefully I can figure out how it works.  ......This was used to develop and test DS games!

#138: DS Offical Promotional Clock

I'm not all that big on items that showcase the console itself (as they look tacky), but I decided to grab this clock.  It's very nice quality, and lights up though I don't have a power cord for it.  :-/

#139:  One-of-a-kind NinjaTown DS System

When Ninja Town was released, GameStop offered a contest to win a Nintendo DS Lite with unique custom art by the game's creator.  There was one grand prize, though this isn't the system.  The creator also donated a DS with a different game scene on it to Child's Play Charity to be auctioned off....this isn't that one either!  The final of the three that he created was given away to one lucky manager at GameStop's yearly Manager's Conference.  My wife was friend's with the manager that won this in 2008, and I had vaguely remembered him showing it to me after he won.  I decided to contact him to see if he still had it--low and behold, he did!  There are pictures of the other two that were made, but this is the first time this one has ever been shown!

Sometimes!  I'm just glad I remembered him winning it.  I'm stoked that he kept good care of it as well.  It has a clear hard plastic shell over the top, and the box is signed as well (though that is a little rubbed off).

Sweet grab man, Ninjatown is one of the better DS games I've played. Probably not many people here that appreciate it, but I certainly do!

140:  The Saddest Press Kit in Existance?

Please....please don't ask me why I bought this.  I stumbled upon this for $6 and just couldn't resist.  I'm uncertain if I've ever wasted $6 in a more extreme way.  This is a press kit for the game Daredevil: The Movie for the Gameboy Advance.  I haven't brought myself to read this yet........

141: Space Ace Sega CD Demo Disc

I know it isn't Nintendo related, but I figured I would share here anyhow.  I recently came upon this--a Space Ace Demo Disc.  I can't seem to find any info on the net regarding the physical disc, but it looks like this and Dragon's Lair may have been the only kiosk style demo discs to have graced the North American system.  I can't find this disc talked about or mentioned on any forum I've checked, so this might be the first time it has popped up, at least in recent memory.  It's pretty funny that the disc is in color since the actual release of the game is not.

142:  Pirates of the Caribbean DS Press Kit

Usually press kits aren't too incredibly interesting, but this one actually has some useful information.  It talks about a promotional 'event' disney was having where visitors to Disney World/Land who purchased the game would be able to unlock special events in the game through hotspots that were placed throughout their theme park.  Hotspots would unlock unlimited ammo, special costumes and a few other items that supposedly couldn't be unlocked/downloaded any other way.  It makes me wonder if there may be a number of DS cards made for this purpose, though I would think it may have been a bit difficult for these to sneak their way out of Disney's clutches (but stranger things have happened!).  The press kit also came with a promotion disc that has additional information on the game including screenshots, box art and a few other little fun tidbits.
