No alcohol for me this week.  
I have a laparoscopy Saturday, so I am forbidden from having alcoholic drinks till the 6th!
It will be terrible.  
 

Just to clarrify, are 1ups against the rules, or just running the score by gaining 1ups and dying forever

I interpreted the rule as being against grabbing the 1ups more than once. Otherwise they could have simply stated no 1ups.

~3+ mil Okay here's a better attempt. I was wrong on my early score prediction, I don't think 3.5 million is going to be enough for top 8. Anyway here's 3 million. I would have done better but a co-worker distracted me hard on an early-ish level.


​~1.7 mil : Here's an early attempt, I'm sure this score will be buried soon. I'm only like 80K under SuperJimtendo. On this level, being shot at, I had no time to plan a strategy at all and failed while going for broke.

Pretty sure this is the highest scoring game we've played for the contests.

Indeed, 1-life, and in 2010 and 2011 we were highly Pro-1-life rule because it was a good way to shorten the runs attempt. it solves a lot of looping problems and abuse (like you said), and because it was a way to make almost any game difficult or more difficult at the least.

I loved the 1-life rule  

Michael got it right, and to be 100 % clear, what it means is that you can grab a 1up only once in a stage. If you get the 1up and then die, you can't grab it a second time.

The 1-life rule can be very fun for a lot of fun, easy games, indeed.

I'll be interested to see how it stands up as the week goes on.  My free time is probably going to get pretty limited, but I'm glad I got a very solid run in (there's plenty of room for improvement, from a scoring standpoint though).
 

A lot of firsts going on here... first time posting on NA....first time trying the weekly contest. Not exactly sure how to post an image yet so......we'll see. Let me know if it doesn't work. Thanks

Hey, nice to see you around and posting some scores on top of that!

I wish your score was valid, but unfortunately my friend, we have a fancy rule set up this week : ''Play until you have no extra lives remaining (no Kickle faces are present in the upper-righthand corner of the screen)'' In other words, you need to stop your run when you only have 1 life left. The purpose is to see the progression in the game (where your run ended).

I'm sorry about that, but it will give you a reason to play another run

My thoughts as I was going through my run was that 3.5 million will be the watermark for placing top 8. Maybe it's too conservative a guess. With your score, you made it to the end... so I guess it would come down to how well you did on the popsicles (or whatever the late-level equivalents are). I think you're at least top 8.
