Great score! I didn't get any time to play yesterday, but hopefully I can beat it today or tomorrow. I wonder if you get a million point bonus for beating the game? On my 229k game I finished stages A-E and lost my last life about halfway through stage F.

It's been a while since I've cleared the game but I think there's a huge bonus you recieve for each life still in reserve after beating the final boss.

That makes sense. On my last attempt, I made it about halfway through the last stage and only finished with 359k, so there has to be a huge end game bonus of some kind. Edit: Apparently it gives you a one million point bonus for beating the game on one credit. I was able to beat it after a continue and I only got about 25k for beating the last boss.

yeah  you get 1 mil for beating the ending

Beat the game last night! No score improvement because I lost all my lives on the Area E boss. I pretty much breezed through the game up until that point as well.

I don't know how many more chances I will get to play, but I think I have a small chance at 1CCing this game before we're done.

I used to play it quite a bit when I had a copy, but once I finished the game, I never really got back to it. I can get through the regular stages without much trouble, but that last level is Ninja Gaiden level tough.

I finally managed to clear it on my last life, but it didn't improve my spot in the standings any. I doubt that I have much of a chance at improving my score, so I'll probably try to get a head start on Shinobi.

Well done!  If I manage to 1CC Shatterhand then I'm done too.

Perhaps there are bonuses for lives remaining also?  That could explain the difference with your score.

Unless there are any other Shatterhand savants here I guess we can let cdbblw have a win this week.

Since our scores are about 95k apart, I'm guessing that it gives you a bonus for any lives that you have left since I'm not sure how I missed almost 100k worth of points. In years past, I'd probably spend all weekend trying for the win, but I have to pace myself in my old age. It's not worth risking getting burned out in week 4 trying to finish first when I'm content to have beaten the game.

It's very satisfying to beat a boss without getting hit and then receiving that nice health bonus at the end of the stage.

And yes you are a Shatterhand savant.

I'm much the same way.  I have decided to be much more casual with the contest now unless it's something I'm good at or really enjoy playing.  So far this contest it hasn't been all that casual.    I'm enjoying Shatterhand.

I've only played this title sparingly but hopefully I will be able to get a good amount of time in this weekend.

It's a fun game, I'm surprised that it's not more popular. I figured it would've appeared on a few of those "underrated NES games" lists by now.

I was suprised it lost in the first round to kid Icarus in that final four thread. IMO it's much better.

Lol. I guess that means they didn't let you take the padded rocking chair with you when you left the retirement home?

For some reason they wouldn't let me take it with me. I guess the insurance wouldn't cover it.

Did you have any lives left when you beat the game? Maybe it gives you a 50k-100k bonus per life. I'm fairly certain that when I beat it a few years ago that I had at least one life left and finished with a 1.4 million point score.

I'm pretty sure that beating the game while only losing one life still qualifies you for Shatterhand savant status.

I'm gonna try and see what other games natsume made for the nes. I know they made SCAT. This game is really good.
