It's only a $600 BIN? I thought it would go for more than that.

The label is missing the top and isn't in the greatest shape

I was under the impression none of the zelda test carts had a back label on them. can anyone chime in about that? also shouldn't it be a 3 screw shell?

I've yet to see a "real" Zelda test cart that think is legit. This one looks funny to me too. The label seems too worn, and yes, being a white/oval seal of quality conventional wisdom says that should be a 3 screw cart.

Absolutely legit, although not in the best shape. As I've said before, the Zelda Test Cart is the only game produced with a gold back label that is missing an Embossed letter. If it has that, assuming someone hasn't discovered a method of creating a back label that looks legit enough to fool the collecting audience, it's absolutely legit.

ETA:  That all being said, the condition on this one is tough.  I don't think it's worth anywhere near the BIN, but it's been a while since I've seen a copy with a back label show for sale.  I'd price it closer to $300, but I've been wrong before.

I'm always iffy on these because everytime I see a Zelda test cart come up for sale the front label always looks to me like it's been peeled off a regular Zelda cart and then slapped on the yellow cart. I don't think I've ever seen a Zelda test cart where the front label didn't look mangled and slapped on. I'm sure real Zelda test carts exist, but I haven't seen a convincing one on eBay.

Again, the only game in the NES library where we have seen a gold back label without an embossed letter is on a Zelda test cart, and there are several examples to point to. You can transplant a front label from a retail Zelda, you can transplant a PCB from a retail Zelda, but as far as we know, you can't create a perfect gold back label without an embossed letter.

Shitty label, but not a single thing I can see in this one to think it's not legit.

I second this. I'm no expert, but I want to know as well.

Also, if the board is different, is the game play the same?

If the answer to the first question is yes, then just make the seller put pics of the board, and bam we can discover if the messed up label Zelda test carts are legit or not...

If the boards are the same, then I'd consider that cart to be worth $10 in my book. I could paint the shell and slap on a messed up sticker easily.

This was discussed at length some time ago, but as far as I've heard the boards are identical. No code variations, no hardware changes, nada.

Also, regular Zelda carts go for more than $10 with nominal regularity. So c'mon, be reasonable . I'm with Mark on this one, it's probably in the $300 ballpark, but I haven't seen one in a while (not that I too actively look), so maybe somebody will get a bit jumpy and go overboard. I think the $600 BIN is REALLY optimistic, though. These peaked a while back, and I'd say a mint one would be $500-ish nowadays.

From my research, the game is exactly the same as the original Legend of Zelda. Same board, same hardware, same front sticker. Only difference, is the yellow shell.

Nope that was a different one, that one had no back label.

My Zelda test cart is pretty much mint, except for some sharpie on one edge (easily removable).

And the back label, which is unique to the Zelda Test cart.
