Just curious, this would be one of those games whose score is 'fixed' AFAIK, thus making it more of an endurance game, right? Meaning, everyone will get 20 points at the same part of the stage, correct?

Yes, however, there are a couple spots in the game where you can bypass some enemies. Also, there are a couple boss fights where you can earn a few extra points depending on how long it takes to fight the boss. In level 3, Baxter Stockman drops Mousers from his flying ship. Now, you can't point rack those Mousers, but you are allowed to kill any that get in your way while fighting him.

Ah, alright. I really needed an excuse to play this game again. Plus I assume Baxter and his Mousers would hurt you plenty if you tried farming.

If we allowed farming, it's possible they could. There's no pizza in that level to heal yourself, and if you're not good at killing Mousers, then farming could be dangerous. The only threat in that boss fight are the Mousers. Baxter can't hurt you at all. He just flies around the screen and drops Mousers.

You get an extra man every 200 points, so this should be easy to verify.  Your lives counter should be consistent with your score.

I'm starting to figure this thing out a bit more. It's a lot easier than I remembered. I goofed up on the boss though, partially getting tired and partially because this Retrolink controller sucks.

the ones that just punch and jumpkick you are the worst.. one hit and they start stunning you and make a couple more hits..  this is about the best I've ever done on this game. played a bit more killed 3 more guys and of course there would have to be a pizza on the very next screen..  ARGH!!

and I don't think baxter on level 3 would be all that dangerous to farm you would just have to stand in a corner and power move the whole time.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

Nice job, Bimmy.  Just finished my own run to the same point. Looks like I've been out-Mousered (if that's a word).

EDIT: Score pic removed.  Higher score later in thread.

I find a difficulty here: I also got to Krang, as rdrunner and Bimmy, and I got 793. I guess I can try more, but I guess I'd "take my time" to kick Baxter Stockman's ass, and get more mouser points - that'd be cheesy. How about this?: whoever finishes the game with one life wins automatically. Or at least kill Krang? we could take a pic before killing Krang, and one after dying with Shredder, and see who killed more Shredder clones?

^^^Are you proposing that whoever finishes the game first wins the 10 points? I would like this idea if everyone were starting at the same time and had the same amount of time to try, but that wouldn't be realistic in this contest. Seems like farming Shredder clones might be the best option, since it should be a lot harder.

You know what?  I was just about to ask a similar question.

I was considering whether I would do another run to try and beat the game on one man, but under the current rules, what's the point?  Someone could win this thing just by killing extra mousers and not even getting to Krang.  I know that we have a "no leeching" rule in place, but it's a very thin line in this game.

Here's a possible solution: How about we make this a low score challenge?  We could do it similar to Double Dragon and Contra from previous blocks.  Most progress wins, lowest score breaks ties?

I'm happy to see you guys already questionned yourselves about this issue.

Definitely, the best option is too change it to a 'Who got furthest - Low score challenge'. Bimmy should agree on this as well.

The problem is, at least for rdrunner, bimmy and me, that if we eventually end up finishing the game, it'll come down to who farmed more mousers. Even if none of us pass after Krang, the winner will be the one that breaks the rules more (no farming), and that's no indication of better gaming. What's more: if I get killed before the Stone Soldier boss, but farmed 5 more mousers than bimmy or rdrunner, I'd "win".

Didn't see this post. I think that's a better option. Actually trying to beat Stckman without killing many mousers is the way to go, and actually more challenging.

No, but there are a couple of spots and ways you can minimize the number of points, like the mousers part. Not telling the other ways I know, though .
