Been traveling the last couple of weeks, glad to be back to my home base and have time to sit down and participate!

129,900: Sloppy first go; have owned this game for nearly 2 years and this is the first time I've played it.

First time giving Shinobi a playthrough and I must say this game ended up being a lot shorter than I was anticipating. One thing tho, screw the last boss and the lame freaking hit box of your character. Literally no invincibility after being it and then the next thing you know you just get hit around like a ping pong ball. Even with extra lives going into that fight I just got screwed over but overall I can complain too much about the score for only playing once.


 

Wow, great score! I missed a few of those bonus rounds and it looks like it cost me.
 

I got all the bonus rounds, but I finished the game on my last life.  I didn't see arnpoly's score until after I saw that I beat yours.  Nice job arnpoly!

I'd say! That's over 200k higher than arnpoly's score.

Here's the thing :/ that first score I died on purpose on the last level until I had one life. 

Last week guillivoie said it was ok to sacrifice lives if you could. 

The second score I died a few times but not on purpose. I didn't miss any of the bonus levels. 

Idk why we're not playing one life in the past couple weeks. 

I dont want want the win if you guys think it's a cheap one, just keep me where I was.

Same here. I didn't play enough to pay any real attention to where the profitable areas were.

I think you're fine. 

I am guessing you spent all of your lives dying on the last form of the last boss.  I think you get 10,000 points every time you hit him enough to change up his attack and I guess your score is around where you take full advantage of that.  I think I got some extra points that way in my run just because I was trying to figure out how the boss works.

Anyway, that situation above is not point racking.  I think we need a good definition of what point racking really is and the best way I can explain it is that it is an infinite point loop.  You had to sacrifice lives to earn those points and the most efficient way to do that gains points at a slower rate than the extra lives you gain for points, so the score has a definite end and that's not point racking.

So all of that is to say, nice job and great score!

 

i just want to clear up my score please.

the score of 700k was obtained by dying on purpose in the stage right before the last boss. I would go through the whole stage and then at the end of the stage there are two gun men, I would just kill one and let the other kill me. I had I think 4-5 lives at this point so I just looped the level down to my last life before I entered the final boss fight (i never point pressed the final boss). That's where I gained the extra points. I never received an extra life (to my surprise) at any point in the stage looping. 

In the second score I posted (590k I think) I did die a few times but like I said they were accidental. One of the accidental deaths happen to be right at the end of the last stage before the final boss fight. That's how I got the idea to try and loop it by dying on purpose. 

This is has been an issue for me in the past three weeks starting with captain Skyhawk. The way the rules have been set allows a person to score more points if they were to die accidentally at a lucrative place for points to be gained because of accidental death. It happened last week with shatterhand as I and cdbblw brought it up that we could have died on purpose in the last half of the last stage before the final boss fight. I said I didn't realize a player was allowed to die on purpose and guillivoie quoted me saying it was ok. IMO this technique is to close to point pressing, but if were not playing one death rules then it must be allowed, or else a player has the chance to get more points than another by accidental death. i even said in the shatterhand thread that i got less points beating the game during a one death run than i did during a run where i died a few times. for my money i think a run with less deaths should trump a run with more deaths, regardless of points. 

Like I said in the thread I don't want the win if anybody thinks that it's a cheap win. the score of 590k is a legitament run with a few accidental deaths but i still dont want the win if its any issue at all with any of the members. just leave me where i was before my last post, or i will take a participation point, or no points. It's not worth it to me if you guys think I did something wrong. My scores have always been legit and I don't want this to have any effect on my rep. I just took advantage of the rule set.
